So you were able to patch past 47.3% Win? On the beta test site, they're saying there's an issue where the patcher gets stuck at a certain point. I seem to be stuck there now.

If you can't get past 47%, use utorrent to get the patches, it's 10000x faster.

It stayed at 47.3% for me as well, then moved on to finish. Just leave it, and eventually it should move on.

I'm stuck at 75.2% right now. Doesn't really matter, as I haven't been able to get an open beta key yet. :(

I shouldn't complain too much, as I did get to play in phases 2 & 3. I just wanted to see the new cities.

I noticed something else... not sure if it's the same lobby error as last night, and I know why I am seeing it now (servers are not up yet), but the lobby error I am getting now is NOT throwing me out of the client when I hit OK/Close like it was doing last night. It is just closing the error window and keeping the title screen up and ready.

On a semi-related note, in full screen mode I can't alt-tab out of the client on the title screen... I haven't tried alt-tabbing out of the game, but I figured that will be a no-go too since it is the same client... makes me a little sad.

Probably pasted the files in the wrong folder. There's 2 similar folders in that general section. Go back up a few levels and make sure you went into the proper "d96437e6" folder that has /patch in it, rather than the other.

Goto C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6 and look for the folder 'metainfo'. In that folder open the correct patch download file (i.e. D2010.09.02.2000) with uTorrent (or whatever torrent client you like).

Once the file finishes DLing, goto the download location of the file and copy/paste it into this directory: C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\patch. Run the game again and it should quickly go through the patch.

Note: I used the directory paths for Windows 7. Windows XP/Vista users -may- have a different structure, but once you find 'My Games' it's pretty much all the same.

Bittorrent and Utorrent aren't illegal. They are simply a method of downloading. It's the fact that your sister downloaded a copyrighted movie that she should have legally paid for that you almost lost your internet connection. There is absolutely nothing "wrong" with using the above programs to download an open beta client faster than you are able to from the official website.

To each his/her own. With that said, the only reason an ISP would kick you from their service due to any torrenting would be because either a) you were downloading copyrighted material (movie, music, software) or b) you were uploading said copyrighted material. Most ISPs overlook the downloading part, but pay very close attention to the uploading part. The problem with most torrent software is that it automatically shares whatever your download folder is so that those files are available for others.

Using uTorrent to aid in the process of patching a game is hardly illegal and would get you into 0 trouble. As I said though, to each his/her own. I respect your stance while disagreeing with it.

Yes, I'm aware of all that. The fact that I choose not to use it does not mean I'm clueless as to how it operates.

You were correct that my sister-in-law downloading a copyright movie she should have paid for nearly caused the termination of my internet account. However, that doesn't mean that I find torrenting itself illegal.

Incidentally, it was a Disney movie she downloaded. Disney somehow got wind of it, contacted Charter, who contacted me. I informed Charter that she had permission to use my wireless connection for college work, not downloading movies. Then I made her delete it.

Let's get back on topic, though. I'm choosing not to use utorrent because I believe (whether right or wrong) that I'm helping the other people that choose to use SE's downloader. Up until a few seconds ago, I had 21 local connections and 15 remote.

Wanting to use the official patcher doesn't warrant rate downs. By using it, you're providing valuable feedback.

If you want to use another torrent program, fine. If not, fine. Stop bickering over it.

From what I can tell... the actual downloader that SE is using is nothing more than a glorified torrent engine that specifically looks into SE's folders on your machines in order to "host" the patches...

Meaning... it doesn't matter what you use as long as you have the patch files in the right folder the people using the SE downloader will still grab them... even if you downloaded them using utorrent.

But at this point we are just splitting hairs anyway.

Do what works and is easier at the time, IMO.
