Protip: don't buy CE, don't play on first week, forget about FFXIV and learn to control your excitement. Play on second week = tada, no problems, everything is smooth, no F5'ing, no wait line.

Pros
It's like a present because you forgot.
You learn to control your excitement.
You give chance to 1 out of some thousand other players. Karma +1

Cons
You miss 7 out of indefinite days of FFXIV life.
You give chance to 1 out of some thousand other players. Evil -1

EDIT
This was supposed to be a reply to some thread but I'm retarded and mistook New Thread for New Reply. Sorry for confusion.

I wouldn't get CE simply because those 7 days will be just like last night and today.

Yeah but you don't get an awesome onion hat and a security token.

Of course, I'd recommend you cancel either preorder, but that may not be applicable for some people.

I cancelled my CE order when I decided eight days early wasn't worth an extra 50 dollars(2 copies).

So.... instead of a lot of people trying to log in on the 22nd, and a lot on the 30th, you suggest that a TON of people all OMGWTFDDOS the login servers on the 30th?

Not to mention the security token is invaluable to those who don't already have one. Along with the other goodies, if you're interested.

Well if you are buying it for yourself.. it wouldn't be worth it.. but if you are buying for others.. and they are paying you.. I don't see how it could hurt :| ... you are paying for extra features.. as well as being able to play before everyone else.. hence will get out of the noob zone before everyone else..

It's personal preference. I don't care about the security token and onion hat. I also did not preorder as I'm not into this game as much as FFXI players are (my friends). It was a reply to a thread and wasn't supposed to come out troll-ish. The selling point of the game to me was the crafting so the first month doesn't matter to me. I like to gather materials and craft the whole day than become the very best.

I think they should add to the CE a Plush of the FFXIV Moggle a good hugable 12" or so big so when the servers timeout and your get mad you could push your face into his fat fuzzy tummy and yell. Instant cure for anger ^.^ <3 the new Mogs

This would be a big selling point for me. I would totally spend 30 dollars for a special preorder collector's edition plushie of a character or monster I'd be seeing a lot in game. You can put it on your desk and kiss it whenever you experience a victory or rip its insides out when defeat comes. You can also sleep with it to dream about the game. Perfect.

I don't know where all these neuroscientists with their logic are getting the whole "don't get CE if you play on the standard release date you'll be fine".

If everyone and their grandmother starts on the standard date there's going to be just as much if not MORE problems than the CE date.

In theory there would be less people trying to log in for CE than there are people trying to get in to open beta. Amirite?

I did say a week after release date, not skip CE play on release date, skip both.
