lag issues with a decent machineFollow

hi all im running

a core i7 965 EE @ 3.2
8 gigs ddr2 1333 mhz
and a gtx 295

and this game lags like **** for me, a buddy running an old gts 8800 is running it better than me, which dosnt make any sense, my res is 1680x1050

now, my card is technically 2 cards in one and i know the beta dosnt support sli, is this maybe my issue? i only have it running on one of the two cards because it runs even worse with both up.

settings are on highest without any AA or forced buffering, it just seems like this machine SHOULD run this a lot better than it is, anyone else with a 295 having similar issues?

On max settings even with that set up, it will probably stutter a bit. It shouldn't however run like total ****. Your buddy with the 8800 is running on low settings, correct?

I SEVERELY dislike nvidia cards...but I'm thinking it's something with your hardware setup itself. SLI I don't think has full support JUST yet but even on a single card it shouldn't be really laggy if that's a good nvidia card especially iirc a GTS8800 is fairly old.

Even people with i7's and high end cards like gtx 480s and 5870s are turning off a couple settings such as depth of field and ambient oclusion. Try messing with those and get back to us.

It is my understanding that the ambient setting causes more lag than anything else.

*what did you score on the 1080 benchmark btw?

i scored a 3700 or so, which seemed rather low to me, although upon doing a little poking around i determined that having physx set to a cpu is actually a bottleneck, so im gonna update aand try it set to a gpu instead, i have ambient and all other advanced settings off

i lowered a few other settings to standard, will see how this pans out, im a little irritated that a system only about a year old cant handle this game -.-

I think it's a driver issue if you are using the latest drivers. Try some older drivers and see if that helps. FF XI runs like **** with nvidia's latest drivers to.

see thats the thing too, i changed drivers when starcraft 2 came out because the latest drivers literally almost melted my card, then switched back for this, i wish someone at nvidia would get thier head straight and code proper drivers for newer games, instead of thier super list of 11% performance gain in a gem from 2 years ago ! in thier release posts

anyone have a driver version that works well for them?

Cool, so we have to use older drivers, and some other arcane things, to get the game to even run properly on our systems. Cool indeed

I actually went to guru3d.com and downloaded some drivers from 2009 because I am not sure when the issues first started with their drivers. I think it started with the arrival of GTX 400 series drivers. You just have to see what works best for you. Oh make sure to NOT download 32 bit drivers on a 64 bit system. I made that mistake and it created problems.

It's been known for a while that you need a geforce 450~ to run the game decently in beta 3+. All the beta 1 talk about "8800gt"s running the game 'well' isn't applicable anymore.

You CAN run the game with less than a 450, but not well. Your framerate will be below 30 most of the time on lowest settings.

That's actually odd, because I have same set except mine is i7 920 OC'ed to 4.0 Ghz. And it runs at a constant 40-50 fps. Probably something related to your video card then.

Try checking into you video card with RivaTuner or something.

I thought that at first but remember there aren't actually any quests yet (from what I can see). Only the first couple of nation quests.

I'm hoping (expecting) a LOT more at full release... I'm so glad I haven't bought a new machine going by what I've seen so far.

I partied with someone last night who said they had a GTX 295 and was only getting 30 fps.

GTX260 here, I can't find a setup that doesn't make the game run like ****. 10-15 fps, I have a 2.24GHZ quad as well.

im on besaid server, i think nvidia dropped the ball on the drivers, because i can run crysis maxed at around 50-60 fps, and thats a **** fo a lot of graphics intense than this

im trying to keep an open mind on this gaem i really am,i know its just a beta, but like i said my friend runs it flawlessly on a 3-4 year old card, and i can barely get it to run smoothly with everything at its lowest... ridiculous

FFXIV is still buggy around new nVidia's cards (FPS cut in half). Also, it doesn't officially support SLI / Crossfire yet.

I saw a homemade fix for SLI a while back, but you'll have to search google on your own.
