Crossfire in betaFollow

Just wanted to throw out the fact that crossfire does indeed "activate" for the beta, but for me, at least, it lowers FPS by a TON (2 5870s), I mean it was just bad. During an opening cutscene with everything maxed the lag was painfully obvious, where as using one card it was perfectly fluent and clear without any stuttering at all. Anyone else have any experience with crossfire lag yet?

Yep. Every netbook with an atom processor nowadays plays WoW.
****, I am sure with some tweaking it would run on an iphone.
Or even on the LCD display of my microwave.

According to this post, someone took the liberty of editing nvidia drivers so SLI works properly in beta ... now if I could just find some ATI ones!

yah i havent used it either. Played on friends account just now and apparently SLi does is not working so you would need the post that the guy above me .. posted ;)

Perhaps at launch it will work as long as nvidia releases some drivers :X

So I found some interesting information while searching around, about a possible crossfire AND sli fix:

"CrossFireX with Beta

1. Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
2. Right Click "Command Prompt" then select "Run as administrator"
3. cd "\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version" <- or w/e yours is
4. rename ffxivgame.exe 3DMark06.exe
5. mklink ffxivgame.exe 3DMark06.exe

Notes:
- Windows 32-bit path will be: "\Program Files\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version"
- NVIDIA users use Crysis.exe instead of 3DMark06.exe
- Remove link then rename 3DMark06.exe back to ffxivgame.exe when you need to apply a update.
- CrossFireX only works in full screen mode."

Now obviously I can't try this because the servers are down, but ... I'm planning to give it a shot!

(should be noted that I've read numerous times that supposedly SE has stated crossfire and sli support will be around for the retail release, but just incase its not, if this does work to begin with, it should also work for the retail version I would imagine)

*To elaborate on the directions, for the portion about deleting the link to allow for updates, in your FFXIV beta folder, there will be an exe file called ffxivgame that will have a little shortcut arrow next to it (this will of course only be there after completing the above steps). Just delete that manually, then rename 3DMark06 BACK to ffxivgame and update!*

Just a slight bump to let everyone know that does does indeed work. With 10.8 drivers it is allowing both cards to run at max speeds full time in game. Just a heads up! (5870s, your mileage may vary)

I am just going to bump this thread because my crossfire adapter comes in today so i can crossfire my xfx radeon hd 5770x2 and I was wondering if anyone has tried this with crossfire yet. If anyone could confirm this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Im in open beta with ccc 10.8 and my hd4870x2 wont crossfire at all.
Ive noticed the gpu use is very high from 50% to 90% on average.

Game is generally smooth but the lag spikes are so annoying.

I really hope we won't be having to do these types of fixes ourselves for retail.

i tried the method, and ATI crossfire successfully was enabled. however, performance got a lot worse. Originally in windows full screen mode (w/ windower), 1920x1080, i got 42 frames per second, by average. Once crossfire kicked in, it dropped to 12 FPS.. :-(

my system
Zotac x58 MB
i7 920
2x HD 5870

thanks.

5970 here, already getting both GPUs used, but with this trick or not, they still only hover around 30-40%, and my CPU cores still won't go above 60%.
