Well, /sit is back and better than ever. It seems to be replacing the rest command from XI.
You get maybe 11 hp per regen while walking, but if you /sit its closer to 35. Just about the same rate as the regeneration was in the closed beta constantly.
If you see a spider looking thing that is taller than your character, watch out, they aggro...
And apparently you can sit in chairs, but i haven't bothered hunting down a chair to test it out with yet.

To get your ps3 controller connected and working, look at this site: http://www.motioninjoy.com/
If you cant leave a city, talk to the npc's to get out of the instance.

Well thats about all i have for now, i tried to find that giant post about all the macros and commands but i came up short, if someone knows where that is or has search it would be a great addition.
Hopefully we get some more helpful tips going on in here. Back to hunting things that look like old cat toys!

Unless you are a diehard fan and would play the game no matter what was wrong with it hoping or knowing it would change over time.
Also, Wint, Pikko, we need either an end all "My game wont work for x reason, can you help" thread stickied, or a tech support sub-forum. I'd like to hear your opinions on the matter if either of you see this. With open beta under way theres going to be lots of people wanting to get it to work, and lots of people wanting to talk about hunting grounds, strategies, propositioning each other to craft them rainbow robes and whatnot.

I 100% agree with this, I would really like to discuss the game itself a lot more, strategies, theories, all the good stuff.

most of the time, people get help though, so at least some good comes of it, but the answers to questions just get pushed down with more questions until ones that have been answered already pop up at the top again. Well, thats the end of my /whine on the subject.
Back to game matters, Degausser, where did you get this information again? I've hunted down a chair and a stool (Apparently they are the new notorious monsters), neither of which accepted my /sit as gratefully as i would have hoped. Im about to just make a character so i can check the lominsa chairs now that im done with my leves.

I learned they still didn't optimize the game at all nor add environmental shadows.

Edit: Oi, rated down for what? I'm saying exactly what I found out. There are no dynamic environmental shadows and the game has not gotten any performance boost from the CB3->OB transition.

Now I'll have to wait until retail to see if anything changes.

What have I learned?

- That I was overly optimistic. The game is ok, but very very bare at the moment. I sort of expected it to be like what XI was like at launch, and it ain't. But hopefully the full release will have lots more than just a few leve's, a few npc's and a few mobs. This is the beta, after all.
- I don't like the control system. I'm really looking forward to the manual and full command list on launch. I miss my CTRL-T, CTRL-R (on that note, where the **** is reply?), CTRL-I... and where's Job Change? Yes, I get that your weapon defines your class... but why do we have to manually change gear to change class?
- The game is really pretty. Even on my machine that barely scrapes in on the lowest resolution, it's so well animated and fluid. I wish I could see what it was like on max res. Almost makes me want to buy a new machine.
- No more Playonline. But I still don't understand why we have to click the XIV button, log in, then click a button to clarify we want to play XIV. Another unnecessary screen.
- The camera control is really clunky.
- I keep crashing for no reason.
- This is only a beta.

I'm happy with it. It works, fishing is fun, I'll try the other classes a bit. Anything else can wait until 22/9/10 :)

People keep using these terms to describe gameplay on minimum requirement PCs, and I don't think you understand them. What fps are you getting, because I've seen the opposite (that it isn't fluid/smooth/etc.) even with "recommended" hardware.

*raises hand* like me. I seem to be experiencing the opposite and I am at recommended specs (a little above actually, 1600 of benchmark as a bit of a reference). I see 20 fps AWAY from everyone fighting monsters way out. In town I see about 10fps.

Don't forget that that the US/EU/ETC launch of FFXI was WAYYYYY after the JPN launch and included an expansion pack already. So, unless you played at JPN launch, the game was already refined and adjusted before you played. I only tinkereed around a little bit, so I didn't get to see much beyond the first few leves.

What I've learned:
Goobues need wear helmets if they are as coordinated as the one in the Uldah cutscene.

S-E needs to work on all the menus...and the menus within menus. They also need to get rid of that mouse icon, it really kills the feeling of the game and its visuals.

Each race's class has different stat/element builds.

Edit:
I also learned that my suspicions were true. The patcher purposely stops downloading between 90 and 99.9% so people help other downloaders. Watch closely when you patch :P

Macros should not be within the config menu, it should be its own menu (I don't know for sure, that's how it was in the last beta). Did that get moved?

I've learned that some "gamers" are completely hopeless without a walkthrough guide, and here I thought the game was giving too much help walking you through the early stages = P

As for the tech stuff...there is a tech forum that no one uses(not for this game anyway)...
http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=25

Oh, and it seems like the controller issue working the drop-down menus is fixed, which is good...

Everything is the same from beta phase 3. I don't like how I am randomly loosing connection and my guild leaves with it. The party invite system has some major lag or just doesn't work at all at times.

Did they change this for the OB? In the beta, if you stood still, you gained 35 (it's % or level based, I think... seemed to go up marginally with rank)... try not moving as well as sitting - I doubt they added the sit feature as a /rest. :P

Actually open beta generally means no NDA so there's a lot of "open beta" definitions out there.

I too just died to this. Was at half HP then just fell over dead. Didn't complete any quest, was just killing the guildleve monsters.

I learned that many people who weren't in the closed beta had much higher expectations of the open beta. I find their disappointment delicious, unfortunately.

First thing I learned...

Don't get your hopes up. If you get in chances are the farthest you'll get is the character creation screen with an error.

Second thing I learned...

That you change your main weapon, you have to reassign your abilities to your action bar, everytime...

The journal is your friend, cause it tells you where to go and shows a map during the quests.

Yeah, that's awful...you can set macros for those every time you want to change a class and equip new abilities. Would be nice to have something in the menu to save setups and easily load them up though. They seemed to have added that where I didn't need it, character creation...if they could implement that same idea with the abilities/classes that'd be sweet...

I've learned that the graphics on MAX are awesome. Even though it's choppy as **** on my system. I am seriously considering spending $500 to upgrade my system this weekend.

The music in and around Gridania is reminiscent of FF6. Which is a good thing.

I've learned that the mouse and keyboard control scheme might not be for me, as the software mouse is too laggy, but more importantly, it's just not that comfortable. I'm going to look in to maybe a 360 controller.

Mining is actually kinda fun.

I'm not that immersed yet, but I think that will change once people start to party up in later levels.

Guildleves are fun, but I hope there's more to leveling then just grabbing a leve and doing it all over again. OH and leves need to start where you left off when you DC.

Had my 1st experience with that a lil while ago...that sucked...hardly even got started, accepted the leve, invoked guardians favor, starting running to the mobs...CRASH...log in= failed leve.

^ This. I've lost 2 guildleves today due to disconnects. Guess SE didn't learn from besieged/campaign where you lose your progress when you dc.

Some people wanted a re-do on lost leves when/if they DC, SE can't do this because people will obviously exploit it when/if they're failing a leve. I don't know why leve fails instantly though, i wish they'd keep the timer running on them, i lost one leve today because of DC.

At a guess it's because your character loses instantiation on the server when you Discon. (Um, for the unacquainted: Instantiation is when the program puts some data in memory for an object, namely, you.) They need to put a timeout on the cleaner, or save your current leve-progress at the datalayer, not in the app layer.

I learned to appreciate the "ctrl+r" command I had in FFXI. U don't miss something until it's gone...
/tell <r> some text

It's not as nice but it works, for those curious.

CTRL-R was working for me earlier tonight - and then suddenly stopped working for no reason.
