So for those of you who have had the chance to play in the beta, which classes are going to be damage dealers...and which will be the highest dps?

FFXIV doesn't work that way. Of course certain classes will be higher damage dealers, but you could technically create any class to be high dps. They allow you to assign your own points into str vit dex etc, so its really based on the player and gear, not cookie cutter molds.

That being said .. Yes some form of cookie cutter classes will be considered the "best dps" in the future, but honestly, play whatever class appeals to you.

Read somewhere Orc Wars are the best... but you may also try an Undead Lock or Dreanei Ele Shamans, then again Night Elf Rogues are great in a 3v3 bracket.......

Yeah, wrong game if you think this way... pick YOUR flavor and be the best you can make it with the abilities and weapons you wish to use.. and put some serious thought into it, don't look at someone else's work for the numbers unless it truly appeals to you, not because of some Recount envy.

And just to toss in a little more, and on a serious note, guides will be out eventually, but like FFXI and ffxiclopedia.org, they are one person's view and style, and this game is extremely more open, so expect many play style guides to come out if you need direction later on.

rather than rebuke people try and convert them first, if it seems incurable THEN rebuke them.

but seriously, in addition to what an above poster said regarding the openness of classes, you should also take into account that in the beta people will hardly know which classes will truly be "best" at what. Anything people could say right now is either only relevant to the start of the game, or guess work at the endgame.

Also, since you can do literally everything on a single character, don't worry about mistakes! Don't like your class change it, don't like your stats respec them, your craft doesn't feel like its helping, do a different one. The only thing you cant change is your character, so make sure you make one you will like looking at forever and a day.
