Ridiculous Server LagFollow

Is anyone else getting crazy server lag? I seem to be able to play any other game here at 100 or less latency, but I keep going into the yellow/red zones in terms of FFXIV server lag and it's terrible, it really makes the game unplayable. What's worse is it seems even worse than closed beta, which had annoying server lag. Am I the only one? I sure hope release is nothing like beta.. I can't even test the mechanics/features with this much server lag.

It will improve. They are doing significant testing server side and they are being bogged down with more people than would normally log in at one time. Release will be smooth sailing.

Do us a favor and bump this on release day to tell us how smooth the sailing is, ok?

I'm gonna assume none of the people who say "it's only beta...retail will be fine" didn't play the Beta for Socom confrontation. the retail launch was horrible ; Sniper scopes would pop off your rifle so you couldn't hit a thing , servers crashed constantly first week. I thought beta was better than launch.

B3 was way better than OB is now lagwise. I'm guessing it's the influx of people. No matter what I do to the settings I lag like crazy. Probably gonna wait a day or two and see if it's better or they do some more maintenance.

I dunno, I've had zero lag myself.

Then again, I'm on Besaid right now, which isn't terribly populated. I think it's still at 1 chocobo.

Mines at 1 chocobo too, it's Trabia. My wife seems to get less framerate lag than me, but she still gets the interface lag.

I don't understand why we are getting lag to be honest. I am on Mysidia and there is only around 1300 people on and I am experiencing lag. If the servers can't handle 1300 people launch day is going to be terrible.

after accepting a party invite, took a solid 40-50s to actually put me in. That was pretty awsome no-lag HIGH SPEED 2010 ACTION.

-not.

The only thing I don't get is why I could run this effing game on near highest settings with barely any mouse or framerate lag during Closed Beta and now in Open it runs terrible on the same settings, it doesn't even run very good on low. But on my wife's laptop it runs great.

I was on a 3chocobo server( i guess SE's way to measure server population ) and i had barely any lag at all.

Running on my i7 laptop with the ATI5870 Mobility.

But my Desktop was having issues running it it has a 260 GTX in it and 8 gigs of ram on a Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz. Major framerate issues.

Looks like my laptop will be the one that runs this game, which is kind of weird, cause my Desktop loves WoW(yes i know an older game requirement wide)However My laptop hates WoW, and lags up on me all the time.

I bet you are tired of hearing this, but it's still beta. You aren't in it to see if you want to play it, you are in it to help SE finish their product. Square is probably utilizing the increased user number by testing their servers. If things break now it means they can fix it before release. It's probably gonna be this way up until relase and probably a couple weeks after. Once the server load gets more evenly distributed and optimized things will get better.

If you are having lag issues of any kind try running the game in a lower resolution than your fullscreen res in windowed mode. I went from 1680x1050 fullscreen having a **** of a time to 1440x900 windowed and it runs perfectly. Currently have settings all highest 2xMSAA, AO off. I had 8xAA on and AO on but I couldn't tell the difference so I turned them off.

For you maybe, but for me OB is a lot smoother with no lag whatsoever. Its about optimization, they're still working on the game so either complain about it or try and get what you can out of it, until release we wont know what the game will play like.

On a high res too? then unless you have a really good computer you can't complain about lag with AO on and depth of field and that stuff - that stuff with bog down your game big time.

Yeah but I can only do it windowed. If I turn on fullscreen it blows up my computer in my face.

The game is finished. SE is not going to 'fix' anything else other than server lag and server downages.

this is a final beta phase. Meaning, this is the complete game. No more apologists please, you are wrong.
