Check out the new database information as well! Its right at the top of the page, Wint and Pikko are constantly adding more information and improving it!
It has recipes, maps, items, abilities, guildleves, and an increasing documentation of NPC's!
Hit ctrl+f to search for your specific issue. BUT just because you dont find it with that doesnt mean its not here, give it a once over before you post in this thread preferably about the problem you are having.
I'd love it if everyone could add what they can if something is missing and ill update it into the first post later, because this is nowhere near completed... Im sure we'll have much to add to this later. I'll probably get around to doing some better formatting in a day or so as well. (That includes removing this intro up here once we get the ball rolling with this thread)
Some things you should know first.
Yes, its a sticky, they aren't just there for decoration!
Thinking about building a new pc after seeing those specs?
Check out this other sticky!
You're going to need the client of course
It can be found here:
Have fun updating.
Cant connect to anyone or have slow speeds?
Forward your ports!
Details on how to access your router settings can be found at http://portforward.com/
These are the ports you'll be forwarding:
UDP - 55296 - 55551
TCP - 54992 - 55551
UDP - 443 - 443
Still having trouble or just want to avoid as much of SE's updating as possible?
See this thread:
WARNING! Some people have posted that they downloaded patch files from other sites when the updater didnt work and now cant get the game to load at all, be wary when using third party methods to install this game, lord knows SE makes things everything but user friendly
Can't get a key?
Tough cookies. Just keep at it, let SE's server know who's boss.
The official link: http://entry.ffxiv.com/
If that one has some kind of error going on, fear not, last night a workaround was conceived in the form of this link, many of us got a key from it (myself included) when the other page was clogged:
Got a key but dont know what to do with it?
Im not even going to say anything, instructions come in the email directly under the key you just got.
Cant get passed the login screen of the beta? Nothing happening at all?
Does the login page refresh and not do anything with the right password, but tell you if its an incorrect one?
Change your SE account password!
Finally made it in to the beta, but things are a bit choppy?
Turn ambient occlusion off!
Things look okay? Turn it off anyway! I have a 5970, and that just puts unneeded strain on my card for almost no graphic gain.
If that doesn't help, you can turn off drawdistance, lower the buffer size, or lower the ammount of multisampling.
Can't run the game at all but you know your system should be able to?
UPDATE YOUR VIDEO CARD DRIVERS!
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST VERSION OF DIRECTX AS WELL!
Now, there's been debate on weather the absolute newest drivers are the best bet for the game at this point. If you're running fine, i wouldn't tinker with a driver update until the retail version comes out.
Still stuck out in the cold? No key? Nothing to do? Want to test your crossfire or sli setup with the benchmark?
ATI cards in crossfire mode, rename FFXivWinBenchmark.exe to 3DMark06.exe
Nvidia cards in sly, rename FFXivWinBenchmark.exe to Crysis.exe
the above file can be found in the /data folder wherever you extracted the benchmark to.
So you finally get to play...I know you want to get your gamepad on!
PS3 controller: (Be warned, its a bit more difficult to set up than the 360 controller)
You'll need a bluetooth dongle, any will do.
Then see this site http://www.motioninjoy.com/
Xbox 360 controller. Easy as pie. If its wired, plug it in. Tadaa, recognized.
If its wireless, score yourself one of these :
once you have either of those installed, go ahead and map your keys in the ffxiv beta config tool.
The game can be play on a mouse/keyboard interface, the only think that you need to do, to control your character like other pc games it's to hold the right click button, that way the mouse will control the camera and you can move your character with the keys (AWSD by default) it's possible to map other keys around your left hand, and then you have it! same control scheme as most PC games.
You have everything set up just how you want it, but you get an error when trying to get to the character selection screen?
If you see this:
"The lobby server has encountered an error"
"Error Code: 1015"
"Error Code: 1015"
Then the lobby server, and most likely many others, are down at the moment.
Check this site to make sure the servers are actually up:
(But for the love of god don't f5 assault it)
Want to know how to make macros, switch jobs on the fly, or sit (possibly in chairs)?
Here's the full list of commands, just about all of which can be used for macros:
Thanks to Degausser for this wall of awesome informative text
PS. /sit also regenerates your health about 3 times faster than just reverting to passive mode! Its the new rest!
Essentially, to switch jobs like speedy gonzales, the first line of the macro should change your weapon to the one used by whatever job you wish to be. The next 9 lines should either be used to equip class specific equipment or actions. Starting with /eaction 2 or eaction 3 depending on how many un-removable class skills are stuck at the beginning of your command list. You can change their order around as well, but i dont like wasting the line it takes to do that. For example, if you want second wind in the 4th action slot of your PUG, you would type /eaction 4 "Second wind" main. Main indicating it is for the main hand. Also, abilities with TWO words must be in parenthesis, but one word actions dont need the special treatment.
Dont know what that new status icon is?
You need to repair your gear! Apparently this turns red after a while and the gear performance drops significantly. I suppose your durability doesnt have to be too far down to get this warning status, but once it turns red, start looking for a way to fix your things!
Rank 5+ and still using that first ability? Its time you got new ones!
Select ability/traits from the main menu, select a box in the top row next to your first noob ability. On the right half of that window you will see a drop down menu. Click it. Select whatever is in there, it depends on your job/class/whatever you want to call it. You will then see one or more abilities appear below in the previously blank rectangle. Select one or however many you have, and click equip in main hand. Poof, you may now go own mobs harder than you thought possible.
Just started? Stuck in the main city and cant get out?
Talk to the npc's, its likely that you are still in an instance that has to do with the story. Its also highly likely that if you let all the models load, there will be about 20 other players huddled around one NPC. You should see what the commotion is about and talk to the green named guy in the center of all this fun.
Also, in uldah, you'll need to go to the smaller outer ring then from there make your way to the exit, the giant gates in front of it don't open and are quite misleading!
Curious about what abilities you'll have when you aren't a noob anymore?
Teneleven has the scoop in this thread:
MP Cannot be regenerated by /siting!
You have to touch a crystal or use an item if you can come by an ether or maybe some kind of juice.
There is also an ability the mage classes get at the start of the game that you can use every 30 minutes to restore varying amounts of MP.
Crafting? Trying to craft? Cant make a pile of dirt?
Use rapid synthesis if you are tying to skill up! Throw some waits in there too for good measure(Mainly if your glowing material is sparking like crazy). There's a system to it, you just need to figure it out!
Need crystals? Go do literally anything. Kill mobs, fish, mine, log. Anything you can do will yield some amount of crystal! Or you could be impatient and go to the forsaken ground of the retainer halls and hunt for them. I prefer the lazy way, put out a buy order on your retainer and they'll do the shopping for you!
There is an icon by their name.
Blue: Easy prey
Green Decent challenge
Orange: Incredibly tough
Red: Impossible to gauge
Cant find the weapon/tool you want?
If you've already checked the npc shop areas, there is likely a guild dedicated to the profession you want to try, look at the map for your respective city and find its icon!
Japanese text input?
It works and runs off the windows IME. Should you type Japanese characters if you don't know what they mean? Probably not
Hotkeys for switching languages:
ALT-~ (tilde): Cycles between kana and direct input mode
ALT-SHIFT: Cycles through available languages
ALT-CAPS_LOCK: Switches to katakana input mode
CTRL-CAPS_LOCK: Switches to hiragana input mode
SHIFT-ALT: Switches between English mode and Japanese mode.
Control - ~: Switches between the current input mode and the English mode within the Japanese IME.
This might be the most important piece of advice i have to offer
Bored after you finish your leves?
DO NOT come complain that there is nothing to do on these forums. For one, everyone will flame you and tell you the many things there are to do. So ill save you the embarrassment. Here's a few, and its only beta!
Grind! Its an MMO, you cant get around the grind no matter which one you play, you knew that when you signed up. Gather, Fish, Follow someone around town. Get a couple friends to do a /follow train on someone in a noob zone while you go get a pizza. Mess with your retainer, talk to npcs. Who knows, you might find a secret quest!
Complain in the BETA FORUMS if you must complain somewhere. Re allocate your stats and become a mage or melee, whichever you aren't right now. Try to talk a lalafell into a game of football. Endless possibilities, right at your fingertips. Think of all the content yet to come as well.
Wondering what stats affect crafting results?
Alchemy - Int
Armorcraft - Vit
Clothcraft - Mind
Cooking - Piety
Goldsmithing - Dexterity
Leatherworking - ?
Smithing - Strength
Woodworking - ?
The above is based on the level 40 abilities you get that say:
Temporarily increases influence of "x skill" on craftsmanship.
That implies there is some influence before the skill is used as well.
You know SE though, they could just be misleading in their wording.
If you guys want to add anything, please have a go at it. Hopefully this cuts down on our forum congestion.
