Griefers, Complainers, lucky ones who got open beta codes before they suspended the program:
Server issues, lag, download issues can all be attributed to beta blues. It's not even past day 1, and people are ready to blow their own heads off. Come back in a week and things will be better, i promise that much.
For the record, I was down in San Antonio all week and just got back today and was unable to get a beta key, despite being in the closed beta. It's ok, retail is a month away and the first couple days of closed beta were just as brutal.
Now, I want to share a few quick things:
I had a chance to play this game on...ahem...private servers this week. There's a lot of good news. The new cities are fantastic, the graphics are smooth (granted these were high end demo units), and the biggest glitches seemed to be fixed (first things i checked were assigning abilities and selecting AoE vs. single target with a controller, both were fixed). The time difference between selecting an ability and it taking effect was also reduced greatly from beta 3. If you are experiencing lag, slowdown, or anything else, rest assured it will be fixed. Here's a few reasons why things might be rough:
1. Server optimization - Guys, closed beta, open beta, stress test, whatever you wanna call it, its not the retail release. So don't be hypercritical and treat it as such. Download servers aren't working perfect, world servers are crashing. This is beta, it happens.
2. This is a foreign company - Remember, the developers of this game write code and install servers in a foreign country. It takes a bit longer for things to cross the pond and get resolved. I admit S-E's track record isn't the best, but they've shown improvements, and hopefully will have quicker turn around when people pay for the game.
3. Your system can't cut it. Yes, there's no rhyme or reason to why my computer can run the game and a higher end one doesn't, but if it doesn't run the beta, don't play the beta. You will seriously need to re-evaluate whether you can justify the cost of upgrading to match what people seem to post works well with the game vs. just skipping it until its been out a while. I'm not saying to ***** the game or go blow 1000$, just give it time and keep your eyes peeled for updates on this forum and S-E before you have a heart attack.
4. Have faith, this is the largest RPG company in the world - Big company. Lots of money. A huge investment in the future with this title. This is a business as much as it is a game, and if people don't play, they won't make money. Which means they will make changes. Square is not out to ***** you and take your money. If your worried after about a week from now, then wait for reviews and check Occasionally for updates on great sites like this one. No one is forcing you to play. If you're here, its because you liked FFXI or another MMO, or are a Final Fantasy fan. It does not mean that you need to religiously check on minute by minute updates and cry when it doesn't work out well for you. If you like it, play it. If you don't, then there's plenty of fish in the sea, go swim there please.
P.S. I know this might start a flame war and thats not my goal, but seriously guys, its day 1 (kinda). Come back in a week and see if the mood has changed.
