So which city do you think has the best opening?Follow

Having tried all three now, I have to say its a toss up between Gridania and Ul'Dah. While I thought Ul'Dah was more "Epic" Gridania was just so completely random, I couldn't help but laugh. Treants are carnivores, who knew. So what do you guys think?

Ul'dah I think has the best. Personally I like it more really. I'm thinking I might ditch Gridania for Ul'dah come release.

I'd say Ul'Dah, it's the one that makes you look more like an adventurer, specially the way your character is sit at the very first time you look at him/her, makes you look like a random traveler just looking for an adventure.

Didn't really like the new Miqo'te Aeris but well... it wasn't that bad either.

Gridania, hands down! Those moogles are hilarious, and the commentary and cutscene made me feel like I was almost watching a movie. The conversation was very animated and it felt epic and that I was a part of it.

All of them looked awesome, though!

Time to accept it, Gridania supporters just have a fetish for masked girls, that's the "Beauty we can't describe with words..." =P

That's cool so many like Ul'dah, I'm "trying" to avoid starting there and read a lot now to do it at release, but I may not be able to fight the urge to see what's up. So I've seen Gridania and Limsa and definitely thought Gridania's was pretty sweet, also worn out from seeing the LL one so often at this point. But when I got done with the opening for Gridania I was thinking "Wow, now that's an intro!"

Torn:
Gridania: Beautiful and very interesting.... kid with horns and controls musical Moogles??!!!
Ul'dah: Conspiracy-ish??? Gobbue went after a kid, something is up!!
... time to pay an extra $3 >< and so far it seems worth it (kids bringing leftovers to school once a month I guess)

Gridania is indeed vibrant, but personally... The opening intro is sorta... I don't know... I've written down each intro in the quotes below and set them to spoiler. Just mouse over them to see it.

Gridania
Quote:
It enters with you wandering in the Black Shroud. Suddenly you hear a voice say those three words we've heard at the start of all the intros. You turn and look up at the sky to see a portal or something open up and suddenly a pod of some sort goes flying across the skies down into the forest. You give chase and enter the site just in time to see it disperse and find a Lalafell and Hyur laying in the clearing. Wake'em up and suddenly a pack of wolves attack. You defeat the wolves and suddenly these limbs tear from the earth and grab the wolves. A treant emerges, eats the wolves, then turns on you. You and the two others run. It crashes a limb down into the earth behind you sending you all flying. The scene slows until time freezes. Confused you look around and spot some moogles with a band of lancers and a young horned boy. The moogles play some instruments that soothe the treant and it slowly wanders away and time resumes. A moogle laughs at the Lalafell who can apparently understand the moogle language and you find the lancers are a group from Gridania who saved you.

They warn you about how you've sinned the forest, and now have its wrath on you. The pair you were with stand up and begin walking away but before you do you stop and look back up at the sky. Finally, you wind up in Gridania.

Ul'dah
Quote:
A carriage pulled by Chocobos enters the city with you on it. As it stops you disembark. Suddenly you hear those three words again and look to the sky to see some strange explosion of sorts with fire shooting in every direction. A little girl comments to her dad about the fireworks. You look back and only see fireworks now and then head off in the direction of an incoming parade. As the parade enters we see giant carts with people dancing on top of it. Contained behind them is a huge Goobbue. A Miqo'te hands out flowers to various people before handing the basket to a young girl. She then leaps on top of the cart and begins dancing. Along with the carts is a group of puppets similar to the puppets seen in FFXI. One turns, blows a giant horn. Suddenly the Goobbue stirs a little and before the mage who had it under a containment enchantment is hit and thrown off the platform. It rages out of control scaring people and knocking stuff every direction. The Miqo'te who was giving out the flowers is thrown from her platform but rescued by an Elezen (I think it was an Elezen).

With another Hyur drawing its attention the Goobbue focuses on you. After you defeat it the Goobbue stands up once more and rages uncontrollably through the city and veers straight for a girl carrying a basket of flowers. A Hyur grabs the girl just in time and the Goobbue crashes headfirst into a stone wall ending its rampage.

Limsa Lominsa (If you've played in closed beta or ran the benchmark then you know what happens here already.)
Quote:
A ship carrying passengers to Limsa Lominsa is on the seas. As the camera pans around to show those on board it then shows you and we hear those three words from a mysterious voice. You stand up and leave the safety of the deck below. Seeing a strange mist flowing down the stairway you ascend the stairs to find yourself standing in the middle of space with fire raining down around you. Suddenly a voice yells to you and you're brought to your senses by a wave crashing over you. A Miqo'te is at your side telling you to go back down below. Around you a storm rages as the crew try to hold the sails in place. You ignore her warnings and step out onto the deck. The ship rocks violently knocking you down. As you look up you're surprised to see the deck overrun by jellyfish as the crew try to valiantly fight them back. A Roegadyn is fighting off the jellyfish taking them down by the dozen. A crew member who had fallen down from the violent shock from the wave before freaks as you point out a group of jellyfish making their way towards him.

The Miqo'te stops mid step, glances out to the see and we see a shot of a giant serpent tail lift out of the water. Meanwhile you run to try and help the crew member just to be thrown aside by a stray tentacle from the jellyfish. The Roegadyn pulls out a gun and fishes off the jellyfish attacking the crew member. Here is where you join in the battle and fight a few of the jellyfish. After they're defeated they begin to retreat. Suddenly they come pouring up over the side of the ship in a stampede. The Miqo'te spots you trapped in the center and leaps down to your aide throwing up a barrier around you both. The jellyfish harmlessly bounce off the barrier and flee around and over it. Admist all the confusion the Roegadyn spots something speeding through the water towards the ship. Just before he can shout an alarm a giant sea creature (That looks alot like Leviathan.) leaps over the boat. You stare in shock and awe as it passes overhead before finally landing back into the sea.

Day comes and the ship has reached Limsa Lominsa. You come up on the deck and then find yourself within the city.
