This from a Miqo'te NPC near the starting area.

Debauched Daemoness: I'd be happy to take your arm, and more, for a time. You deserve a proper welcome to Ul'dah, fair lady that you are. I can please you as well as any man. Though from the looks of it, you don't have the coin. A shame, that.

Wasn;t expecting SE to do something like that wow.

This NPC is found in the instance after the first cutscene intro in Ul'dah. After you get off the carriage and can control your character you'll find this Miqo'te wearing a long hooded robe standing near a door. It kinda surprised me too when I first saw it but then I recall they did say that FFXIV was gonna have bolder content than FFXI had... Hehe... Ironically, this lady reminds me of a nun in some ways too...

The title totally got me... and to be honest I was expecting something completely unrelated to the game.

Btw... I just got a contact from a friend she call her retailer Twochiks Sametime, isn't life sometimes sending you a message?

Too bad it had to be a Miqo`te Smiley: disappointed, however there's gonna be some interesting Cutscenes I can say that much...they got a bit bolder throughout ToAU and WoTG heh.

I'm seeing a lot of sapphic content.. Not that it's a bad thing, just sayin'. If I'm surprised by anything, it's that this kind of dialogue wasn't part of the "Teen" rating explanation.

I'll believe SE has gotten edgier when they add a *** male character to one of their games. And no I don't mean a flamboyant guy with a lisp, I mean a *** man. SE doesn't seem to recognize the difference...

When I went through the adventurer's guild introduction in Ul'dah as a female Lalafell, the Lalafell proprietor mentioned she enjoys hearing discussion of how various men measure up. I wish I could recall the exact words she used. I'm curious if this line of dialog would be different for other genders / races.

She said somethin' like "But don't come whining to me every time you stub your toe now, though I would enjoy hearing about your misfortunes with the ladies." It's a bit off, but close to that...

I'm curious if race has anything to do with it, more than anything. I figured a male would get a different comment, as various NPCs clearly reference player gender a lot more than FFXI does -- it's not a simple 'sir vs madam' context switch in many cases. Or at least, it convincingly appears to avoid that. I'm just curious if it was a specific comment that would be made only toward Lalafell females, or if it would apply to all females.

People were raving about Gridania, but for me, Ul'dah is by far the most entertaining city in the game so far.

The NPC's all have something funny/interesting/relevant to say, and the opening movie is some kind of twisted Tim Burton-esque adaptation of Aladdin.

Scared the crap out of me, that's for sure.

Okay, I just found the SECOND prostitute in Ul'Dah. She's willing to "meet me in back" and "give me a touch" for money. I mean seriously, having a a few of these scattered about is funny because you unknowingly click on one and see something outrageous like this, but I think Square Enix is getting a bit carried away. Right now it's worse than Vegas. It's like you can sleep with any female NPC in Ul'Dah for the right amount, it's getting a bit silly... And in Limsa Lominsa, you can't walk around without feeling like one of the pirates is going to have his way with you. Does Gridania have some ethics? I feel like where ever I go some one's trying to violate me in this game :(

Edit: Found more... "See anything you like Adventurer, even two ladies can have a bit of fun together...". It seems to be a brothel of some sorts. At first I was like *giggle* but then I facepalmed and was like "okay enough... I'm not THAT horny..."

Now for something completely random and off-topic...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVibTONEg8s

Now for something on-topic... The whole brothel thing that SE seems to have going on in Ul'dah could lead to some interesting RP situations. Quite unexpected really but this goes to show this isn't like the happy-happy-fun-time world of Vana'diel we've come to know for so long. Speaking of which, I'm excited to see what kinds of events they plan to hold in FFXIV when it goes live. SE had some good ones but now that we're seeing a more mature MMO setting hopefully there won't be any more of these doll-collecting or Sailor Moon wannabe events. (Don't get me wrong, Mumor to an extent was kind of entertaining, but they milked the thing far too much. Some of FFXI's content looked as if it was aimed for kids around the event holidays.)

Doesnt Ul'Dahs flavour text comment on it being a business town where people stop at nothing to make it rich? You know what they say about prostitution being the oldest profession and all that. Anyway loving it so far, hope they keep it at a higher maturity level through out.

I dunno man. For a few hundred gil it seems like it can be quite a happy happy fun time in Ul'Dah at least.

@ xxAnikalxx

I wouldn't exactly call it mature, if anything I'd call it immature. Kind of like when you get to Jr. High and learn about all the dirty jokes and say them non stop giggling about them constantly. Then you grow up and appreciate more sophisticated jokes that have kind of a "undertone" to them. Like I say though, if it was just like a NPC some where in a Back Alley I think it would be much funnier, because it'd be "THAT NPC" instead of the entire town feeling like Bangkok or something. Seriously, can't get a bite to eat in Ul'Dah without some one trying to inquire me. >:I

The entire theme of Uldah is decadence and wealth, so I don't think it's that excessive. It may not be your cup of tea, but the real world does have its share of hedonists and there are places (like Vegas) whose entire purpose for existence is to separate hedonists from their money. Uldah is that, plus a trade hub, rolled into one. It's Vegas if Vegas was also a gigantic truck stop. The Hwoorz seem completely realistic for that setting, IMO.

@ the OP:
By the way, the Debauched Demoness or whatever her name is, is not a ********* prostitute, she's just an equal opportunity prostitute. She gave my male Lalafell the same speech about having a good time, except too bad I don't have any coin, etc.

Ul'dah also has an NPC in the Goldsmithing guild who says something to the effect of:

Quote:
I could offer you a trinket. Or... a good polish for your family jewels, perhaps? Should you have any, that is. Anything you'd like.

(this isn't an exact quote, and the update is keeping me from double checking it).

Edit: Fixed with actual quote.

Believe me I know, and yes this world is a bad bad place, but even in Vegas not every shop you walk into is going to have a prostitute offering you her services. You have to like, y'know, at least look a LITTLE bit for one. Not that I'm one to hire escorts but I've spent my fair share of time in Vegas, I live just hours away from it. That's all I'm saying is, I DO like the idea of this stuff in the game, it's quirky and makes you giggle, but when there's so much of it it starts feeling excessive, and at that point it's not "The real world maaaaaaaaaaaan" it's just kind of silly and immature. I mean, unless you go to certain areas of Bangkok like I said. Then again, I'd hope Ul'Dah would have just a bit more class then that. All I'm saying is the tone of the whole matter is a bit... Loud. They're just over doing some things in my opinion. And I still stand by the fact that if there was less of it, when you did find that occasional shady NPC it'd be like "Ohh haha! What have we here?". Right now it's just like "Ohh look, another one...".

I love the mature aspects of the game, makes for some funny dialogue. In the Miners Guild in Ul'Dah (its kind of like a small pub for the "miners" of ul'dah) there are prostitute and dancer Mi'Qotes, if you talk to the "customers" NPCs, some of it LOL funny.

You're comparing fair of one *** against unclean of the other; what would you pick between an handsome prince and unclean greasy fat woman? If male adventurers are sweaty, dirty and all that jazz, female adventurers are most likely subject to the same thing.

In any case, I'm not complaining either way, I do find it pretty cute that the NPCs are trying to hit on my miqo'te.

This. When I read the articles about the rating and SE's "descriptive" explanation of it, I figured there would be a few laughs and moments in-game, but this seems a bit much right off the bat! I expect that if they keep it up it will get old quickly and possibly garner some unwanted media attention from crazy christians feminists soccer moms Westerners.

Everything in moderation.

As much as I hate wanton Bowdlerization (anyone remember the Grape Wine Juice or Yagudo Drink, both of which are made from "decaying" grapes?), I have to agree, the whole "Darker and Edgier" + "Hotter and Sexier" thing in XIV is just a little bit worrying.

And ***** you so very much for putting a page titled "******* prostitutes" into my browser history! *shakes fist*
j/k :p

I was going to start in Ul'Dah but after reading this thread I've changed my mind. Not everyone likes this kind of thing.

There's just as much if not more sexual stuff in Limsa. A lot.

I think a pirate threatened to rape me.

I haven't encountered anything like that in Gridania though, but I didn't talk to anyone there. That's probably why.

That, so very much. Yeah, last I checked, I'm a heterosexual(ly frustrated) male, but dammit, if I want to see fake whores making suggestive comments and thrusting their equally fake tits at the screen, loading up FFXIV isn't exactly going to be the first thing on my mind, know what I'm saying?
