Seriously SE... Login Queues?Follow

#1 Sep 03 2010 at 7:45 AM Rating: Decent
SE now tells us if your server is full/to its limit, expect to join a Login Queue. Was disconnected and upon trying to log back in this is what I got. This was on their newly introduced Selbina server by the way.

Login Queues were in place for the earlier beta phases too. It's better than everyone spamming login at the same time and no one getting in. Just ride it out. In the earlier phases it was borked and you'd sit in the queue for 30 mins just to get bounced from the server. Thankfully they fixed those issues.

Haven't a few other games used queues as well during testing/launch?

Lots of MMOs use login queues to avoid servers crashing. So would you rather crash the server and wait an hour for it to be up, or wait 5-10 minutes to get in?

P.S. Long queue!! I think I will take screenshots next time I go to the DMV or the post office and go to forums to complain

I haven't been in many betas, but I didn't really expect SE to throw login queues at us. In Phase 3 I never witnessed one of those. But moreso I encountered this on their newly created server, at this point it's likely to have at most two Chocobos out of the full 3 listed.

Most MMOs (even F2P) has Login Queues (or complete denial of entry if the server is heavily congested) in place, sometimes you don't hit it but depending on the MMO it's all you ever do somedays.

I really don't see what the big deal is here. I've seen login queues in both WoW and WAR, also that was once the game was released and had been out for a few months. Just read a book or play another game while waiting. This is very common in the MMORPG world.

Also on a side note I don't have much sympathy for you right now (no offense). I have not been able to get in any of the betas or the alpha, also I keep trying for an open beta key but keep missing the chance to get one cause of work URG. Look at the bright side you have to wait 30min to get in and try the game out, the way things are looking at me I still have like 19 days to wait. My little rant is done now sorry everyone for it. But it is very frustrating hearing all these people complain of little inconveniences for them when they still get to try the game.

SE actually said before Open Beta started that they would be using login queues. They are stress testing the servers with Open Beta, so it's either add a login queue or continue letting them crash repeatedly until they find out what they can handle.

Strangely enough yes, I thought it would be pretty **** sweet if I could help this game become a little better. Wouldn't brag to anyone about it but inside I would be very happy to know that. Even though I would have played a small part, I helped make a game successful and enjoyable to play by many. That's why I have wanted to be in this beta since day one.

the queue is broken actually well in OB on the first day it was.

i am on limblo or whatever its called...anyways

it said 380 person queue, didnt change...forever. then i exit go back in 350, then i exit go back in and i just entered the server no queue. could be a bottle neck of some sort and not so much a limit on the server (which already has a population cap) i jumped on selbina no problem just a sec (new character and all)

i am sure queue is going to be an issue on release. however i actually think the release will have more power per server just due to the fact they are making money not letting people play for free that being said. if your willing to take the risk just jump in and out, right now i actually say push push push and force as much stress on the servers as possible so SE will take more precautions for release! :) thats the idea of a OB anyways major stress tests! (i am sure a lot of people who dont give to ***** about this game are trying it)

Actually that really sucks for you, didn't know the queue was broken, well hopefully the situation changes soon and you will be able to get IG, I retract my previous statement. Also on the note of irony I just got a key lol :) all I had to do was complain enough and the forces that run this world must have gotten sick of me.

I love the people that think the server architecture is trash because no one is paying for the service yet.

When you go to the movies the first weekend of release, all of the CGI and stunts and explosions are there, they don't wait for all of that money from ticket sales to come in to put that stuff in during the 2nd month of its release - it's called a production budget, and if quality servers aren't in that budget now then Houston, we've got a problem.

That doesn't make any sense. Login queues will very probably be in the final release and they most certainly aren't a bug. You can disagree with his criticism of the queue system but the "it's beta" thing doesn't really apply here.
