You don't level up your alchemist by killing stuff. You level it up by crafting alchemy items. There are quests for alchemists at the adventure's guild under "Local Levequests."

Depending on your city you'll find "Guilds" to join around the city. Just open up the main menu while in town and look for the map option. You'll see places listed with (Insertclassname) Guild on the map. Go there to buy a weapon to change your class. Unlike previous FF titles, what you equip determines your available skills and abilities. For classes like Alchemy they can mainly be leveled for free by using a Guildleve designed for your class (You can find these at the Adventurer's Guild in any city.) and accept it. Then go to a camp and talk to the NPCs there to start it. Alternatively, buy some equipment to harvest, mine, or fish and collect the ingredients to level Alchemy on your own. Either way it's gonna require you take on performing synthesis recipes to boost your Alchemy levels, throwing rocks at enemies even if they do manage to kill it, won't net you points to level it, only your physical level.

If you're an alchemist (or any crafting class) did you find any recipe you can spam? Crafting classes aren't fighters so you have to craft to level.

For Example, I don't know if this is still in the Open Beta but:

Beeswax - Beehive Chip x3, Fire Shard x3, Water Shard x3

So chances are if you have a WAR class leveled or need leveling, switch to that for your fighting and item acquisition, or if you can buy a Botanist set (Scythe/Hatchet) and do some logging and harvesting to make some gil and get items you need.

I went to the adventure's guild there are no more quests for alchemist there. I have played many MMOS, but this is my first FF MMO. The 2 alchemist quests in the adventure's guild, I didn't make all the items needed. They will not give me more quest items to try again.

It's a beta, there's very little information going around right now.

Go and buy a weapon for another job - they range from 600-700g. Or a fishing rod. That way you can make gil to buy the ingredients for your alchemy.

Very few recipes are known at this time.

No, typically the game gives you new recipes when you successfully finish a guildleve for a given craft, but for now people test stuff and when they get results they post them online - here's a link for all crafts: http://www.ffxivrecipes.info/recipes.php?CraftID=8

Pick one low level recipe and go to the alchemy guild (if you're in ul'dah) or find a place that sells certain ingredients and start crafting. Sometimes, different vendors will sell different materials, your best bet is to run around town and familiarize yourself.

To be honest, I'm not really sure why they give you the option of being a DoH class from the start. Unless you go with Botanist or Miner there isn't alot of things you can do to earn money that doesn't already require you have some to spend. To craft you need to earn cash or scrounge up the ingredients, yet all DoH can do is throw rocks at stuff. Sadly dealing 1 damage every few seconds won't cut it and without money to buy a weapon, or some harvesting/mining gear you can't expect to make much progress.

Finish the opening quest and that's 30k right there...more than enough to get started...haven't seen how that escort part of it works as a DoH, those mobs seem terribly easy though...

Opening quest is done, I just can't do anything else after. I had 30k, but I'm down to 20k now. The town I'm in doesn't have a guild just a vendor. Been playing for 12 hours off and on. I have like 5 quests to kill stuff, yet I can't kill anything. The game just crashed on me so going to log back in and try to fish.
