Physical Level vs Job LevelFollow

#1 Sep 03 2010 at 12:14 PM Rating: Decent
Can someone please explain what the difference is between Physical Level and Your Job Level?

Job Level seems obvious. But I'm not sure how Physical Level comes into play. Thanks :-)

Class Level determines which spells/abilities you have access to.

Physical Level determines stats, resistances, and the amount of Action Points/Trait Points you can use to equip class related abilities/spells.

Physical level is for stats, job rank is for skill/abilities with each job. It's somewhat of a more "realistic" way of handling character progression than being reset to a newbling every time you change to a new job, in that your stats are retained but you have no real skill with your new line of work.

Hmm, i've been wondering about this

When looking for a party, what level would you be looking at? Of course it won't be that much of of problem for your first job, but say your physical level is 30, and your class level is 10....how would you go about looking for parties?

So I could be level 30 physical and level 1 Glad and I would have equivalent HP of a level 30?

No I don't think so, you would have higher HP than normal but i'm pretty sure your class level plays into this too...same with your other stats, i'm sure if you're level 50 physical and level 1 gladiator you wont have level 50 stats, if that was the case I should be downing the tougher mobs with my level 1 PUG right now because i'm level 10 physical but mobs still con the same to me as they did when i was level 1 rank 1...

If that is the case then I'm still not sure what the significance of physical level is.

Think of it this way.. Your physical level is basically a universal class. You can level up different disciplines to define how you want to play. For example I leveled my Thaumaturge to lv10 and now using a spear as a lancer i can also use my Thaumaturge skills like heal/poison/etc. So i have basically created a paladin in a sense. Perfect class system if you ask me.

Higher acc/dmg/resistance

It's not as significant as weapon level but it does make a difference.

Physical level = How strong, smart, buff, quick your character is.

Class level = How proficient your character is with a particular weapon. If you have an axe in your hand, how good are you with it? Can you use axe-related abilities?

A level 50 physical using a level 1 axe might survive for awhile in a high level fight, but will be able to do nothing with his axe (miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss)

Kind of sounds to me a bit like FFXI merit system where your merited abilities would be allocated at certain levels of your new job.

The class rank does much more than descirbed in this thread.

The class rank has by far the most effect on everything.
This means Damage, Defense, HP, MP etc.
(A Class Rank Up ist similar to a 20+ STR or VIT boost for taking and giving damage).
Physical Rank is only for boosting stats. It helps, but you realy get stronger with the class rank.

You can look at it this way.
Your Class Rank gives you a "attribute-range".
For Exampe:
Rank 10 gives you the possibility to Hit same level mobs for 20-80 (depending on STR and Weapon) DMG and gives you 400-800HP (depending on VIT).
Your stats now influence where your are between this boundaries.
With a higer class rank the boundaries move.
Rank 15 against same rank 10 mob: 50-150 DMG (with same STR) and 600-1200HP (with same VIT).
Then again 100 STR with Rank 30 aren't always 100STR with Rank 30, depenting on your Class.
This means. Youre class infuences the "boundaries" too. Not only the rank itself.
Technically its not your Rank that boost your actions, its the difference between yours and the enemys rank.
You ranking Up makes the gab between you and weaker mobs bigger and to stronger ones smaller.

The difference between your and the mobs rank ist the most important element.
Much much more important than your stats or your gear.

Raising your class rank also raises the cap for the stats that are taken into affect, i.e. HP, MP, STR, DEX, ect.

So a Phys Lvl 50 player with a level 1 class should have has all stats MAX for that class. Unless you have incredibly low allocation to one or two things. Which in contrast to a player who is Phys Lvl 1 and class rank 1 is a vast improvement.
