Interface Lag ExperiencesFollow

Not a complaining thread, I'll keep those to myself, but I'm trying to gauge whether or not the lag I'm experiencing with the UI is a product of my system or server side lag. Judging by the increases in interface lag when in crowded areas I'd say server side, but I realize this may be exacerbated by my poor machine specs. Hopefully other people are in my shoes and can figure out if their machines are up to the challenge of this game.

So I'd be obliged if people could post their benchmark scores and/or computer specs along with their experiences with UI lag.

Me: Benchmark ~2000
On 1280 by 1024 resolution and resolution size buffer I get quite extreme UI lag in crowded areas, noticeable lag if only a few PCs are around and negligible lag when I'm more or less alone.

Almost EVERY interaction you have with the game hits the server before it comes back to you. It's definately their servers, there probably stress testing it now.

Hopefully they'll fix it, if not they seriously need to stop having everything we do go to their server...

I logged out last night at the Tam-something Undercroft crystal. When I logged back in today, there were no other players. Only a couple Dormice in the area, outside the room I was in.

I had zero UI\interaction lag. None whatsoever. I've never had the UI run so smoothly. Of course, once I teleported back to camp, it was back to the usual UI lag.

2000 benchmark score.

I'm running around noticing that not only am I casting a 2s cast spell for 5+ seconds, but I'm also seeing other people do the same. It is also exacerbated in areas of high player traffic. I believe the lag we are experiencing is server-side. I does seem worse now than last night. Perhaps a product of the expanding beta.

I had this same issue. It's CPU related once I upgraded my chip set I get very little U/I lag.
If I do it's when a lot of players are on screen and I mean a lot. That might sound like server issues but it's your CPU trying to load those players and the environment as well.

The u/I mouse cursor is also software driven which ties it to your frame rate. So if the cursor is slow chances are you need to upgrade your box. Sux I know but the game does demand some beefy specs.

If you haven't yet. Try turning shadows down the lowest as this greatly improves frame performance.

I score excactly 2000 on my 4.5 year old comp. aswell.. and i pretty much gave up on this game so far. The UI lagg and pretty low FPS at the absolute lowest settings just makes me wonder if i'd even enjoy it in the long run.

I'll be keeping taps on these forums when the game goes live, hopefully people will be able to describe if the UI lagg suddenly has dissapered.

I have no issues with the cursor being slow nor selecting which ability to use. What I'm experiencing is a latency between me telling the game to execute and the game executing. It's a network latency. Hopefully, this is a symptom of stress testing and will subside.

Played in all tests so far - This time: No UI lag that is noticable compared to other tests except when in battle the spells/actions have a lag on them still. I actually started synthing because that lag has gone for me now. No slow down in the city Ul'Dah, and I am very pleased so far (4274 high, 7112 low), P i5 750 Quad OC'd 4.00Ghz, 5850 GPU Oc'd - very happy and the game looks truly beautiful!

I will chime in on this one. If you ping the servers themselves the average latency seems to be anywhere from 150 to 180ms which actually is quite bad. I believe there is some internet backbone problems over in Japan or in the Pacific Ocean Underwater Fiber. I can ping other Japanese sites and get about 80ms or less.

This is probably the biggest problem right now and why when you hit an action key to fight things there is that slight lag. It is also why the symbol be Send and Receive remain Yellow and sometimes hit Red. I am sure this will all be resolved when the Retail release comes out. So any lag you're having, it's definitely the connection.

But this is to be expected from all the Betas I have had the chance to test, even with servers residing in the United States. I believe FFXI runs so well because they have server farms throughout the World for the initial PlayOnline login phase. However the game servers are hosted in Japan obviously. Regardless, it's not that bad. Just wish combat were snappier lol.

The only other beta I've participated in was the Aion beta, and the lag I experienced there makes FFXIV look snappy. Just some kinks need to be ironed out, and hopefully things will be made right for the full release.

1,700 benchmark score.

Lag in the UI is fairly bad. Lag in crafting is terrible. Lag in trading is terrible. Lag when buying or especially selling something to an NPC shop is pull-your-hair-out-bad.

Try turning off Ambient Occlusion.
I had pretty bad UI and mouse lag, and the game felt very heavy and slow. When I turned off Ambient Occlusion it became like a completely new game. I have no UI and mouse lag and the game runs smoothly and capped at 60fps.
Much much much more enjoyable.

Give it a try!

The ui is saved server side to prevent people from using 3rd party programs, so when i click something it has to go from my comp to their server and back. In WoW (incoming ********** it is client side making you able to use 3rd party addons (ui's, atlas loot and the like)so it doesn't have to do the leg work.
