Someone said that you can only find out recipes by trial and error, but I don't see how that's possible for more complicated things...

Honestly, I don't either and I find the fact that you have to guess completely ridiculous.

Its not by trial and error, but it will be by some guesswork.

If you map it out, you can see the various components that string together to make an object. There are other, very similar components available. What if, instead of using a maple plank to make that bow, you substitute a willow plank. will you get a willow bow? if you can make bronze chainmail, from bronze nuggets, a bronze ingot and some bronze rings, can you do the same with brass? What about iron?

If you can make a tabard by hooking up a tunic and a pair of sleeves, what if you use a leather tunic and leather sleeves? Can you add gloves to it?

The organised ones are going to crush the dabblers, at least until a database is built for the ones who aren't interested in figuring it out.

Even so, I'm still in awe of people who figure it all out..

Seem's there's a bit of a database already.

I got a recipe from doing one of the blacksmithing leves in Uldah. I've also just thrown in a single item to see if I can process it (like copper ores)...then it shows some of the craft results and even what craft skills you need (like smelting).

FFXI was the same way wasn't it? Most recipe's were figured out, or got by dat mining.

What I did was put a single ingredient into a box then hit ok or whatever and it showed me what other items I was missing, like crystals etc

In XI there were recipe NPCs to give them to you.

Our database currently has 179 recipes entered, though some may have changed since P3, so we'll need people to let us know any updates.

ah, ok. Well, to be fair, FF XIV gives them to you also. If you do the "Local" leve quests, you have to craft stuff that they give you a recipe for. There's no telling how many recipe's we will get from it. Especially as you level up.

I did find something out. If you put random items into the crafting interface, it will either tell you that combination can't be crafted, or it will bring up a recipe list of what you can craft using those items. With a little trial and error, you can ......

Ok, let's just wait for the Dat miners lol.

Also the crafting guildleves, provide you with 'temp' items to craft with, this has the side benefit of also showing you the craft recipe since it puts them in your window for you.

Now if only they didnt waste my precious precious crystals.

Ok, maybe someone can help me with this. I don't want to create a new topic for it. I can't figure out how to get craft recipes to work. >< I did the guildleve's just fine. I picked this random armorer recipe out of the zam database:

Fire Shard x8, Copper Nugget x5

I can't get the 8 fire shards into the craft window with the nuggets. It's greyed out.

Any ideas?

You don't have to guess anymore since OB. Once you finish a crafting Guildleve you get a recipe as reward. Obviously it would not be SE if it where actually stored somewhere, so write it down!

Yeah, i was surprised too!

Just add the Nuggets. Crystals/Shards get added automatically from your special amazing crystal moogle bag once you confirmed the recipe!

Kupotastic!

It would make much more sense to have an interface that showed the recipes you can craft, the materials for each recipe, and it's difficulty.

But nooooooooooo...

Everyone from FFXI has a message for you : SE usually takes the longest path around 'common sense'.

you put the materials in the window only, not the crystals then you hit ok and it tells you how many crystals you will use to make the item

How do we submit recipes for the zam database? Found one that (I think) isn't in either the zam database nor FFXIVRecipes:

Hempen Halftights: 2 x Undyed Hempen Cloth, 1x Hempen Yarn, 1x Sheep Leather Strap (Grey).
Not sure about the shard requirements, sorry!

Edit: Oops, forgot to mention that this is for Weavers.

I agree but they have taken some *tiny* steps toward helping us out, when you finish a crafting leve successfully they give you a new recipe...I just wish they had a recipe book in the game so you can log what recipes you've made/know.

And give its 1 month or 2 and its all in wiki.. and in 2 week i can see a crafting guide on how to get from 0~20. It feel like i'm back to the days when i jus started FFXI, nothing was told and no one knows where the NPC are.

i found out that currently there is 3 (in-game) ways to get a recipe

- Trial and Error
- Guildleve Recipe (The item you have to make)
- Guildleve Reward Recipe (Its different from what you made)

P.S: Sadly its OB, cos i'm making tons of gils with clothcraft as (a.its to complex) or (b.no one know the recipes)

So i have been training up some armorcraft. rank 1 > 7 and I still seem to fail just as much. Does Craft rank even help your success rate or just let you crafter higher items?

Also, I need to make myself some armor! my starter rags suck :) Searching around i only been able to find a helmet recipie and vest. Anyone care to share armor recipie for Arms, boots, Legs or whatever else. Personaly I am seeking bronze / armorsmith ones.

I have seen a few people running around with a full set of chainmail, looks nice.

Well this morning, I received two new recipes as a reward for completing a pair of Rank 5 Culinary leves. As soon as I turned in each leve, the recipe would appear after all the awarded cooking goodies for the task.

Crayfish Balls (Freshwater Fishing Bait - almost sounds like Insect Balls from XI)
1 Crayfish
1 Iron Acorn
1 Sack of Rye Flour
1 Distilled Water

Boiled Crayfish
1 Mineral Water
1 Crimson Crayfish
1 Bottle Cloves
1 Pinch Table Salt

Now of course, I started my character at Lima so there is no way for me to make either synth. But my alt in Gridana was catching crayfish in the streams. There is a saltware fishing bait recipe which uses Gorby instead of Crayfish. Once I get my hands on some materials, I'll try to make some.

Note: You should write down those recipes since the game doesn't provide you with an ingame cookbook.

When you do a Guildleve for a said craft it will give you a random recipe. Make sure you don't miss it. Once you turn in your Guildleve your text screen will say "You have learned how to make a Silver Ingot" then below it will tell you the ingredients and the quantity. These recipes are random so make sure you pay attention to your text box on completion of a Guildleve.

Does it save the ingredients list anywhere in your journal or something? Or do you need to remember things manually.
Personally, i vote for the latter. I think its cool we all have to figure out recipes on our own for the most part. And it will make it more realistic if we have to write them down and remember things for ourselves. Also means there could be some secret/rare things to craft =)
