Some concerns about retail versionFollow

So I admit it, I'm enjoying this beta. It's actually making me want to buy into the retail version. However I do have a few concerns that boil down to : Are they just being generous to help us test things out more easily?

Examples :
Re-rolling stats - I can see them removing this completely in the final version, perhaps they only allow it in beta to let us try many combinations of stats on different jobs to find any super broken setups?

Exp gain/skill gain - I'm very happy with the speed of progression here. But they will probably cut down the rewards hugely at retail, to stretch out content right? The only doubt i have about this, is that in FFXI level 1-10 is always fast, and TNLs grow quite steeply from there. I'm aware we may just be looking at the lowest noob end of the game in this beta, so they might leave it as-is..

Drop rates/Gathering rates - I have a suspicion these are also boosted and to be chopped down. Mainly because my inventoy has been maxing out way too fast, feels like it should take longer to have a full bag. Again I suspect these rates are boosted to help us test crafting.

Movement speed - Please don't lower it!!

Many things like this put me on the fence about retail release. If they don't change any of those things, great. But if they pull a switcheroo and the game we buy ends up 10x more grind-y than the 'demo', I won't be sticking around long I think.

Let's hope they stay generous for this game.

I don't know about the rest of your concerns, but if they remove the idea of being able to reroll your stats, I think the outcry from the community would be tremendous.

As it is right out, it's already poorly-implemented. In all the information that S-E provided us about FF14 in the past year and few months, they talked so much about how you could change classes simply by changing your weapon, be a healer one moment and a tank for the next fight.

Well, When you changed jobs in FF11, your stats changed with you. When you change classes in FF14, your stats don't. You are only allowed to relocate so many points per pre-specified time duration. That means, if you change to a Lancer from a Conjurer, and haven't changed your job for a long time, then you could redo your stats just fine. But say you wanted to go back to working on Thaumaturge an hour or two later? Well, I hope you enjoy casting spells with your awesome STR stat, because you'll have to wait another day, or more, to reallocate all of your points again.

Dodgy.

Yeah the stats thing does suck. It takes only some from each, so if you have a lot in str, vit, dex, and want to roll as a mage your pretty screwed. I think I was level 6 Gladiator when I first tried it for my Conjerur. It gave me like 9 points to reuse and it was pretty evenly removed. Maybe 2 from str, vit, dex, and 1 from the rest. Well I wasn't even putting stuff into piety.

Yea drop rates for crafting items are a bit much, but if you leveling them crafts you need a lot of them since you lose everything every time you fail. I would like to see them have better gear drop rates though.

EXP gain needs to be changed a lot. I seen level 10's and 12's raping the stuff level 3's and 4's were trying to kill. The whole reason of making things too weak was to try and end these kind of things.

Like this would affect their decision to do it at all? I can think of one instance where a community outcry has resulted in. . no change at all >.>

Probably because the community didn't know what the **** they were talking about with said outcry.

Anyway, I doubt they will remove stat-rerolling. It's a critical part of the game with the whole make-your-own-class type thing.

I don't see that happening, but I wouldn't be surprised if they limited it more strictly to certain places and times.

I'm sorry but.... what?

"The community didn't know what they **** they were talking about"

So it was my own ignorance that made me dislike losing exp gain after grinding for a long time in a game dedicated to the finer points of grinding exp?

Funny, because a lot of people want it to go the other way, ability to change all stats at once. I wouldn't mind being able to do that once in a while to change from a DoW to DoM as long as they restrict it so you can't consisently change to kind of cheat the game. I think the bigger concern there is that we're still learning what extra affects the stats have regarding weaponskills & abilities, crafting, & gathering. So I don't want the ability to change stats anytime, but perhaps the ability to fix my early screwups if I learn more about the system later. Would be nice if it were easier to do, but I get why there's limits & restrictions.
