I posted this a few times, but here you go.

As long as you're comfortable installing a torrent program (If you don't have one already), and do some dragging/dropping of files into other folders, do this. It's worked wonders for our LS:

1. Open the FFXIV open Beta client, allow it to get to the step where it begins downloading files. This will ensure you have the torrents downloaded on your computer.

2. Open whatever application you use for downloading torrents. If you do not use one already, I would suggest uTorrent ( www.utorrent.com ). In Utorrent, File > add torrent. Point Utorrent to the following:
Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\metainfo

In the metainfo folder you will find files that have the same name as the patch your FFXIV was trying to download. Select these files, and hit open.

3. Utorrent will now begin downloading these files to your computer. Based on your internet connection and security settings this should take less than 5 minutes. By default Utorrent downloads to the "downloads" folder in your documents folder. After it is complete there will be a folder called D96437e6, inside of this folder there will be a folder called patch, and inside the patch folder, there will be the actual patches

4.Copy these files to Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\patch

5. Open FFXIV, it will try to patch again, realize it already has the information, and prompt you to log in.

6. Win.

Well Ridere, that utorrent stuff sounds cool, wanna come over to my house and set it up? I am a complete idiot on computer stuffs and your explanation on how to do it whilr it seems very detailed doesn't help me at all because there is no way I could do it. I know, I am lame a newb and i suck...I got a computer to play games on and I ain't gonna study and learn how to do things to play games, I want it to be easy and carefree so I can logon my comp click the game I wanna play and play it, not go linking stuff and opening files to this folder in that directory.....sorry I am old and dumb, leave this fancy torrent stuff to you young wipper snappers that have had a computer since you were born and understand how they work cause you been doing it all your life. :) not flaming you just telling my side of the story

Sorry, Prittis! :(

I completely understand. All I can really suggest is just hang in there, then. I'm happy to answer specific questions about my suggestion, if you do have them, but if it looks daunting to you, then don't worry about it. :)

I haven't used my suggestion on today's patch, as I'm stuck at work. But when I used it successfully for yesterday's patch, this is what I did.

I closed the S-E downloader. Downloaded the file via utorrent (The direct download link provided by the other poster should be okay, as well, I'm assuming). I then took the succesfully-downloaded patch from the download folder (Be it where utorrent sticks it, or your browser if you followed the other link the other poster provided) and dragged/dropped it into the folder given in my step 4.

It should ask if you want to replace the exist file. Choose yes. Then next time you launch FF14, it'll act like it's going to download it again, but it'll realize it's already at 100% completion, and it'll start patching it for you.

Hope this helps :)

I have to admit was a little skeptical about trying this. I am not very comfortable downloading items from internet. Never used torrent programs. Eventually after 3 hours of waiting and not seeing any correction from square tried it and was very easy. Took like 5 seconds to download and another 5 to install.

I understand the hesitation about Torrents, but...

A). uTorrent is a respected, and widely-used program. Going to their official website (a Sourceforge website IIRC) and downloading it directly from them is guaranteed to be safe.

B). The Torrent system itself is safe. As long as you use the standard protections (AV, Firewall, etc) you are safe even when using a Torrent system.

C). uTorrent (and any other Torrent app) performs either CRC or md5 (I forget which) checks on all file pieces that come in; you _know_ your file is clean and good, as long as the person who created the Torrent didn't place a virus or a trojan in the original file. Since this is SE we're talking about, I think you can be safe knowing that SE wouldn't throw a virus in their patch file. Since the Torrent files themselves were made by SE; these also come with a "hash" key of sorts, the way I understand it. This Hash key is a unique value specific to -that- file. If one single byte in the file you are downloading is off, the Hash values won't match, and the Torrent program will know, and throw that piece out and attempt to re-download it, so you are guaranteed to get the right, undamaged, uncorrupted file.

D). Torrent technology has been around for years -- this isn't something new and buggy. I myself have used Torrents on occasion, and haven't come across a single problem yet (other than lack of seeds/peers on more obscure downloads). Since the Torrents are made by SE themselves, you won't have to worry about getting viruses, trojans, etc. Torrents found on other websites... not so much. SE's torrents, though, should be safe.

I'm glad everyone is having success with this. Hopefully S-E's downloader will get fixed however it needs to (I'm no expert on torrent software, so not sure what needs to be done), but in the mean time, I'll continue to go to utorrent route.

hehe!

I've said it before, but I think it needs said again:

Please please please let this be FFXIV's normal updating system, even after commercial release.

This is _so_ much better than FFXI's updating system, by far. Please don't ***** with this, SE. Leave it the way it is (other than fixing the official updater lol).

Khaiya,

If you have utorrent running, go up to the top left, and there should be a File menu option (like on most programs). Click on it and choose the option, "Add Torrent".

This will bring you to one of the more classic File > Open dialog to boxes. You just need to browse to the folder where S-E dumps all their torrent files. Most likely this is:

Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\metainfo

Now I can't tell you the exact file you're looking for, as I'm at work and haven't actually installed the patch myself. But from what others posted in this thread, I think it may be D2010.09.04.2000.torrent. If you open up the metainfo folder using regular folder browsing on your computer (Like you just wanted to see all the files in it), it should just be the file that has today's date on it. This part is sort of hard to explain, but I hope that helps.

Once you pick it out from the File > Add Torrent option, then it should download it nice and fast. Make sure you close down the official S-E downloader and then go to your Downloads folder in your Documents folder. This is most likely where your downloads are stored when you download files using Firefox, if that's your default browser software, too.

Grab the file you just downloaded with the torrent and copy it, or drag/drop it, into this folder:

Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\patch

It will ask you if you want to overwrite the file already in there with the same name. Say yes, as you want to replace the incomplete one the official downloader was downloading with the complete version you downloaded with utorrent. Once it's copied over, you can close utorrent and relaunch the official downloader. It should act like it's downloading it again, but it'll fill up to 100% immediately. After that, it should install, and you should be good to go.

If it doesn't copy over correctly, make sure you've closed the official downloader before you try to copy over the file.

Hope this helps!

People are able to get it to download the regular way, yes. It seems to be hit or miss on how long it takes, however. Someone just posted their success after many hours. I don't know.

Good luck is all I can say. These small patches have been surprisingly difficult.
