Wind shards?Follow

Just curious, is there anything one could kill in the starting Ul'Dah area to increase the chance of wind shards dropping? A ton of recipes I'd like to try call for it, but they seem to be the rarest shards so far.

I'm not sure about Ul'dah, but I do have a suggestion for you. I may end up killing myself for this, but... Limsa Lominsa sheep drop Wind Shards.

There is a huge flock of them that hang out by the Western of the two light houses that are south east of Limsa. I farmed there for quite some time in Closed Beta, working on ranking up classes, and I had like 800 some odd wind shards. I'm sure there are other places to go, but maybe do a bit of exploring, head towards the ferry and hitch a ride over the Limsa and take a look.

But if you see a Lalafell named Ridere Tirose there, politely bow and run away and leave the sheep to me ;) hehe

Good luck!

I made the same thread yesterday.

Seemed to conclude with "Nope, they suck, good luck." However I have found that I get some decently mining outside that seaside nation.

I remember in closed beta it wasn't long before I had 300 wind shards in Limsa Lominsa. Try going there.

Er, one more question. Is it necessary to go west and take the ferry to get to Limsa? I don't really see where it could be on my map to be honest :\

I wonder if this inability to get wind shards is part of what SE meant when they said weather would affect things.

Yeah I think the ferry's your only choice there...

No worries, Tim. Just remember, if you're looking at the Limsa Lominsa outer zone map, you'll notice two lighthouses surrounding some bay that's there. They will be southeast of Limsa on the map. The Western of the two light houses is the one you want.

There are two sheep type mobs there, and there's quite a large group of them, and they provided wind shards in closed beta.

I'm rank 7 glad/10 physical, are they going to be doable for me right now or should I get a little higher before attempting?

I safely killed them as a rank 5 Conjurer. I think you should be okay, but I don't know for certain.

I have been in need of Lightning and Wind Shards for weaving. Once you have a few you can set them up in your bazaar as seeking. I sometimes get passersby that will sell the shards to me without any action on my part. You just have to renew the seeking each time someone fulfills your order.

The most annoying part is you can only seek what you have. -.-;

From what I'm reading, it sounds like they've made the shards kind of regional. Need wind, go to Limsa Lominsa, need Fire go to another place.

Does it seem like the guilds that are specific to the cities are requiring the shards you can find in those respective regions?

Actually yes, that makes sense. I was wanting to do armorsmithing so I needed wind shards. Lo and behold, armorer/blacksmithing guilds are in Limsa, so that's where wind shards drop. Makes sense but I wish there were more in-game documentation on which guilds are in which city.

is it even possible to get to Limsa from Gridania without the use of an airship?

I have literally hundreds of wind shards from fishing at the ocean around Limsa. Literally like every other fish I catch comes with a wind shard or two. I dont even know what to do with them

I'm sure many people are in a similar situation, but getting those crystals to crafters is proving annoying.

from what ive seen from having a character in each city
you can essentially get all crystals from all areas, but the abundance seems to follow

Gridania : Earth & Ice
Ul'Dah : Fire & Earth
Limsa lominsa: Wind , Lightning & Water

Seems like you have to level up a bit before you can defeat the Dodos in Ul'dah - and the get Wind shards.

I've got a lot of Earth, Fire, Ice shards in Ul'dah.

I think the secret is out, or Mysidia really is overcrowded...

Cuz sheep on this server are an endangered species. If you go to the coast area all you see are white dots.

/sadhobbit

PS which server has the lowest pop.?

GameFAQs has at least 3 or 4 threads on the subject, and FFXIV is like #3 on the most active board list.

Secret no longer...

I'm in Gridania and wasn't getting any wind shards which is needed for the carpentry and leather working recipes. After I dumped all my elemental points on the wind, I have been getting wind crystals very frequently. I mainly mine and log, prior to the adjustment have been getting fire and earth non-stop, any insight to this?

as far as i'v seen, when you level up and put points into a certain element. that element drops more frequently. I'm in Ul'dah and literally i'm like pooping earth crystals and shards. i have 40 points in earth. but i'm not totally sure, if someone really knows, post it up!

As far as I've noticed all mobs have one major element that they will drop 6x shards in or even 1 crystal. (I've gotten 6x fire shards and 1 fire crystal from Glowflies in Gridania, for example). Then there is a minor element which they can drop 3x shards for.

Bee Swarms, for example, drop 6x wind shards or 3x water shards.
Fungars drop 6x ice shards or 3x water shards.
