I like the fact that it feels "real." Some people may not like the fact that you have to go through mini-games to log/mine and whatnot, or to actually participate in crafting instead of it being automated, and I can respect that, but... Honestly, that's my favorite part of the game. Same with the more interactive battles (no auto-attack). Yes, it takes more work, but I feel a lot more involved with the world. I'm more than happy to give up some convenience if it means I can more easily put myself in my avatar's shoes. It actually makes me ENJOY gathering/crafting, two things I would never touch in my 5-ish years of playing FFXI.

And... Of course the graphics. It might be shallow, but I legitimately enjoy everything more because it looks better than anything I've seen before. I even enjoy the drab/"boring" starting armor for the sheer amount of detail it has. I can't wait to see what the mid-to-high-level armor looks like, as I'm assuming it will get much cooler like it did in FFXI. This is a big plus to me, because my resolution for FFXIV would be to pay more attention to the little things rather than just worrying about progress.

Of course there's more, but those are the two major things. :)

I really like the music.. The vast environment... And level of detail in the graphics.. Sadly though everything else sucks... The quests... The terrible mob placements.. The boring and utterly slow exp gain.. The crappy party system.. The very bad chat interface.. The dead quiet community on lots of servers.. No ah... Generic daily quests.. The battle mechanics need work.. Crafting mini games are bull ****... Npc needs map placement icons . Party members need map placement icons.. there are more buy typing on a phone sucks..
WoW: we want to give players a more fun time with less grinding and generic quests
GW2: we want the player to feel like they are leveling while doing something fun
Final Fantasy XIV: we want less fun and more grinding

The Music. Easily the best part so far. The area just outside Ul'dah specifically. I never thought I would say this, but I really like the removal of auto attack. At first I was rushed to put in commands as fast as possible, but I soon found a nice flow that came with combat. It's a nice balance between spamming abilities every second and sitting waiting for auto-attack to slowly beat an enemy down. Plus it looks awesome when I land a perfectly timed Shadowbind, Raging Strike, Puncture.

That's super huge for me!!!!!
10+ years MMO history and only FF14 now makes it.
- FF Music is always top notch.

Still in training camp doing basic stuff, havn't seen much yet.

After my exploration romp today, visuals and sound in this game are simply stunning, takes the cake for my favorite thing so far. Far as combat/story goes, I don't feel I've seen enough of them yet to make a real judgment, I mean I can play the first 10-20 levels of any mmo and not feel like I'm doing much in combat yet.

It is really refreshing to play a MMO that just feels different. The past MMOs I have played have all felt very similar. I also actually enjoy the crafting mini games. I have never been fond of crafting in MMOs, but this is the first time crafting has ever perked my interest despite the bad UI.

I'm currenty having a blast exploring and learning new things.
I'm having fun with all the classes. The world is beautiful and the music is fantastic.
If this is as bad as it ever gets, we have a lot to look forward to and be excited about.

Graphics/music are great and the areas have a vast and "real" feeling to them, unlike the "cartoony" feeling of WoW and other similar mmorpgs.

I like the concept of equipment/gear that scales up with you as you level. Hopefully this is implemented well in the final release of the game. It would be nice if that epic piece of gear you spent hours or days or even weeks to obtain didn't just automatically become trash after you gain a few levels or when the next expansion comes out and the level cap is raised or something....

The crafting/gathering system does seem a lot more interesting and interactive this time around. I like the fact that you don't have to compete with others for gathering points anymore and that you can't just sit somewhere and "camp" a mining point or something like that. SE seems to have made a lot of adjustments to perhaps make this game less appealing for gil-sellers to flock to. I don't really know how NMs and rare monsters and stuff like that will be handled, but I imagine there will be a lot more instance-based stuff in this game.

Getting around seems much easier as well even from the very start of the game. You can teleport around using anima. I also like how you can just go AFK at the ship dock and your character automatically boards the ship when it arrives even if you are still AFK.

No brutal exp penalties for death anymore. I'm sure this will appeal to a lot of people.

Overall SE seems to have taken a lot of steps toward making the game more fun and less frustrating to players this time around. They've taken a lot of cues from what made WoW so popular/accessible to the casual/non-hardcore player but I think still retained much of the overall feel from FFXI . There's still stuff to fix like with the interface, controls, partying, etc. but I think they'll be able to sort this all out in time.

1 word. Immersion. Square Enix has always been great at immersing the players into their fantasy worlds, but this just takes it to another level. I never felt so immersed in a game before, and I'm a hardcore gamer.

I played FFXI for 5 years and another thing that Im absolutely loving is just how similar this game is, yet how different it is at the same time. It's truelly brilliant.

Definitely the best graphics i've seen in a mmo to date, and also rivals the best non-mmo games.

The music, my goodness. How amazing is it? It's just wow. It doesnt matter where you are, or what you're doing. The music playing always fits the mood and setting. Just brilliant!

Like an above poster said, if this is the worste of it, we should all be very excited for the future of FFXIV. Truelly a masterpiece. A work of art. I see countless hours of enjoyment from September 22nd on out.

I agree I love the music. I am a big fan of Nobuo Uematsus work and this game is no exception :P But really everything about this game is just amazing Its so ahead of the curve i love it. I really like the cut scenes when you use the elevator or the ferry. The Leve system for doing quests is great, and with some side quests later on will be so much better. I cant wait to ride a chocobo and take an airship trip =)

Combat - I love the combat system. It has that FFXI feel but its a lot more interactive. It's nice how using a weapon skill doesn't use up all your TP and then you just end up attacking with basic stuff until you have enough. Can rack up enough TP to sometimes do 5 weapon skills in a row. Battle Regimens are nice too. It seems not too many people use them but I think once we get into farther levels, people will want to start pulling off regimens that will lower a mobs attack, accuracy, etc,.

Music - Music is great, thats a given. Today I asked my friend if he had his music turned off and he said he left it on because he was enjoying it. I was surprised, for the past 5 years of doing different MMO games with him, he always had it off because it annoyed him.

Crafting - Crafting is a lot more fun this time around. I also feel the rewards from crafting this time around come early. I don't have to hit level 50 woodworking to make that one item that I can use as my level 12 archer. The whole idea of not really knowing recipes or not having them saved so you don't have to transfer mats is a bummer but in the end I think it'll be more immersive. I plan on using my CE Traveler's Journal as a log of recipes =D

Artwork - Not only are the graphics and music amazing, but the artwork for this game is top notch. You can have great graphics and music, but if the environment and layout of places is so so, it can cut down on the immersion. You feel like you're in a real world and theres ton to explore. There is a lot of areas that are still off limits to us or protected by high level mobs that we haven't seen. Can't wait to check them out.

Equipment - So much detail and just looks great. Straight from level 1 I like how everything looks. They also did a good job making the armor for DoW and DoM classes unique so you can somewhat tell what armor piece would be for who.
