I was fishing and all of sudden it told me that my gear is broken. It did not tell me exactly whether it was the rod, my shirt, etc.

I scanned through my Equipment and I don't see anything that tells me durability or the life of the use. I even unequip and check. Can anyone tell me how I find out?

Also who I bring it to in order to fix? (I need NPC)

You have to check the item through your inventory, not equipment... Yeah, bright move on SE's part, I know. -.-;

Telling us which town you're in would help. :x
In Limsa, it's an NPC in one of the NPC markets... In Ul'dah, it's a little taru by the chocobo stables.

I am having the same problem! I've been searching Limsa for ages now, can you tell me where that NPC is exactly please?

It would be much easier if I could repair my own gear though, I have asked everyone in the blacksmiths guild for how I can become one too but to no avail. How can I sub class a blacksmith in Limsa? There seems to be nowhere to buy tools :(

The wear system is definitely awful. I don't mind repairing gear, but this system is nasty.

Simple repairs won;t help me, and I can;t figure out how to repair the item myself. Anyone know how to make repairs?

1) Figure out what craft your particular piece of gear requires and equip the appropriate tools.

2) Unequip the gear you want to fix and make sure you have the required repair components.

3) Select the piece of gear from your inventory and press the Repair button. Place the components in the slots and confirm.

4) If you have the appropriate level of skill you'll attempt to fix the gear.

You do have a chance to fail a repair, but the only thing I've seen so far is you just lose the ingredients you needed. If you don't have the appropriate level of skill it'll give you an error message.

Anyone got an idea how to repair underwear? It can't be unequipped... it can be repaired at the NPC, but he only seems to repair it to 50%, which is not enough to remove the red debuff.

You sure? I only see two Lalafell's in that area, one literally at the stables talking about them, and one juggling.

You'll find him to the West.

Can only unequip undergarments if you have a replacement garment. SE's way of keeping us from running around totally naked. I love to repair stuff because it shows you do it but its not like synthesizing. If you see the animation that you succeeded the items are repaired. Some of the starter gear has ???/numbers and hidden stats if you repair them.

I had some hempen half gloves that when i repaired them it had some perception stats even though I dont know what perception affects atm.

On a side note i like the bazaar seeking addition. I was browsing someone's inventory when I saw they were looking for 3 wind shards for 150gil each so i had plenty and just sold it to him almost like he was an npc. I know it needs a browse feature but it looks promising.

Hey greenminttea. You'll find the hyur to repair your equipment in the northern shop area. If you look on the far eastern road in gridania, you'll see two red pins showing the locations of shops to buy equipment for new jobs. Go to the northern red pin and look on the eastern wall in the gap between shops. You'll see a person there who will repair your equipment. Unfortunately, she will only repair it up to 50% and you'll still be stuck with that annoying little yellow icon at the top of your screen.

Yup, I saw that when I was walking to the DoH/ DoL market

You are right you have to check in Inventory. I saw a Repair button visible. Guess that means to fix but then again if you look to the left of the button, it says Wear (if I remembered right) so the higher the number the worse it is? Because the wear on mine was like 92k out of 97k something like that

1. It uses Ash branch, where I find that?
2. I unequipped so I am now Conjurer. I guess even if you don't have components it doesn't tell you what you are missing? Seems like the case because it gave me so many choices what to repair and I didn't see a way to get fishing rod out of my inventory
3. ---haven't gotten there

It's so much easier to get your gear fixed by the NPC in each city, gradinia is between the two merchants on the right side in the second room of NPC stores from the adventurers guild.

The repair NPC wont bother with you unless a piece of your gear is below 50%. And you can't see durability on your gear unless you select it from your Inventory. You don't even have to unequip it (you just need to take it off to do self-repairs).

Thanks a bunch. I guess I will have to try and earn some gil (to get the repair tools) and inspect how bad of a shape is my rod.
The game crashed on me bunch of times when I was doing leves, so until then I just have 234 gil LOL

Rather than fight with it, I simply pitched my weapon when I got the little icon on my screen, then bought a new one.

Reading how cumbersome it is to figure out/get things repaired, I'm kinda glad I did. It made me realize that the ignorantly fast level of degradation is the lesser of two evils ;)
