Playing this beta, I've just realized how long we've all been spoiled with mmos that constantly hand everything to us on a silver platter. With quest markers, boring crafting systems and instant teleports to anywhere you want to go.

So many games have recently done the exact same things. One copying the other. In my opnion it makes for a boring game when you don't need to put any kind of thought or effort into what you're doing. I personally like what they're trying to do with FFXIV and appreciate their "vision". I would'nt change a thing about it. It's a beautiful game and requires a little more from the player than some twitchy fingers. When you work a little harder for something, you tend to appreciate it more and become more attached to your character and the environment.

Anyway..just my 2 cents.

The only challenge I've found in XIV so far is navigating the trash menus. It takes too long to learn how to do the simplest of tasks and then once you learn it's just tedious execution. Combat is easy. You either win handily or you get your *** royally kicked. It's hard to say now how the game will be in the mid-high levels in terms of challenge, but right now anyone heralding the thought provoking challenge of XIV is deluded.

I love the game so far to a point but your post is kinda the suck. Anima gives you instant teleport, well laggy cause the UI lags so I guess not instant. This game doesn't need markers cause there's 1 quest every 10 levels. Leves actually light up the map and give you an arrow so...... Boring crafting you say? I know most of this is BETA and there's supposed to be more in release that's why I'm sticking it out. But posts like this is why this game is getting flamed, please start making valid points people!

I like this game because it is so not like WoW, it is just so innovative and awesome.

Why get a quest to kill 10 squirrels in WoW quests are so stupid.

I'd rather grind 10 squirrels instead, it's different.

...wait.

At least in other games you have to wait for your flight path to finish.

Instant teleport (besides the ui lag, and dont even try to navigate this computer game's menus with a mouse) instead of 10 minute flight path.

You now realize how much you contradicted yourself.

It's a valid point to me. Lag is..well..lag. I'm assuming it won't be there upon release. The camp teleports are instant, yeah sure, but to only one location (the last one activated),unless I'm missing something. I know when I ran to Emerald Moss and activated leves there, then wanted to go back to town..how do you think I got there?

As far as having one quest every 10 levels..that's stretching it a bit don't ya think? I've done quite a few guildleves before level 10 by doing my own from 2 different camps and sharing leves with others. That's not counting the crafting leves and whatnot.

Does'nt really matter. I'm just saying I appreciate the game the way it is and look forward to how it all turns out in the future.

Do you really count the guild leves as quests?

And hes right about the one quest every 10 levels because you only can advance to the next part of the main quest every 10 levels.

and it appears the leves are also separated by 10 levels

Camp Bentbranch: ~1
Camp Emerald Moss: ~10

The Color of Sin: Start
The Greenwrath Awoken: Pick up where beginning left off after hitting level 10

Doing the main quest and leves, hitting about level 4-5, grinding the next 5 levels getting new leves and nothing tells you, "Hey! Go talk to the main chick behind the desk again, she starts the next part of the story"

Finish those, grind another 5 levels.

The teleport comment was directed at you the rest was a blanket statement regarding the state of this forum.

Heh..well I'm not in that group.

I played WoW. I liked WoW. I don't anymore, but you won't hear me specifically bashing it. Mine was more of a general statement about the overall dumbing down of mmos these days. Perfect example would be: My 7 year old sits in the room with me and plays WoW...with no help from me whatsoever :P

The 2 games represent both extremes.

WoW saying go talk to this guy i'll mark it on your map he'll tell you to kill the dragon and you right click it and use your abilities.

FF says alright heres the opening cutscene and good luck! You can start the next part in 5 more levels but we won't tell you that.

WoW---------------------------------------------------------------------------------FF

As of right now I can't stand WoW and FF has been a bigger let down than finding out Santa wasn't real.

1. Stand near aetheryte.
2. Open menu and select "Teleport".
3. ???
4. Profit.

That argument can go way beyond just video games. Everything's dumbed down these days, even important things like...education. No one's stupid & no one's inferior...if someone can't make it, lower the bar. So it's hard to argue with people wanting their video games easier because they get that everywhere else. And really we are just talking about a game here.

Though I agree that it's nice to see SE not completely cave in that way...

I do appreciate some of the things not being totally straightforward, but I still think FF14 could use some more user friendliness.
