So, I've got a question for the FFXIV General Forum... How many of you are Android users?

I ask cause I am currently creating a FFXIV Recipe book for the Android operating system (ie, Droid, Galaxy, etc...) I am thinking about discontinuing the development of the app if the user base is low. I think most people will just use ZAM or any other website to get to their recipes. Would be cool to link it to ZAM or something. I really could see the fun into having this app if you were at work or outside somewhere thinking FFXIV.

Does your phone run on Android
Yes:52 (45.6%)
No:62 (54.4%)
Total:114

The prototype. I have some of it made but still needs a ton of work.

Perhaps instead of making an android app, make a web-app formatted for phone-sized resolutions.

Yea, I was afraid most users are going to be running an iPhone. I would most certainly love to have an iPhone and develop for one but the only way would be to jailbreak it as we don't get AT&T service where I live.

If they don't add a recipe list in game, I would recommend creating a mobile app. Having to swap to a website to find recipes is pretty silly, but at least on your phone you don't have to alt-tab out and you can have your phone right there in front of you. I hope that makes sense.

I really hope SE adds a crafting menu that shows available recipes, materials required, and difficulty. I honestly think something like that is a must. The crafting has so much potential, and adding these features would make it a completely awesome system.

EDIT: I have a Samsung Galaxy S.

Yea, I agree on that note. Since the game is in beta I really haven't though about this app too much. If they end up adding a book in game than this app is only useful if your logged out. I guess I will play it by ear and see what Square-Enix is really planning.

You should make it regardless of the user base. It seems kind of silly to tease those that have droid phones with a handy app like this but tell them they cant have it if they are a minority.

I think this would be a great Idea. Your "app" would be universal for all phones. And updating would be easier than having to update the a whole app in general. http://www.wordpress.org Has a very nice CMS and some nice phone friendly plugins for your site.

If you create an app that allows me to look up recipes on my Moto Droid, I swear I will buy a plane ticket to come out and give you a hug.

Seriously - that would be awesome.

I'm using Android 2.2 on an HTC Incredible and I'm already using the Eorzea Clock app. I love the idea of a recipe app, and make sure it supports the 2.2 auto-update feature since I'm sure the recipes would be updated more or less updated daily for the next 2 months, lol.

iphone user here too.

Why don't you make it available via web just with a phone layout, or does Android provide a wide variety of functions to make worth the development for an specific platform? I'm quite curious about it.

Why would you ever want an iPhone with so many superior choices?
Android > iPhone OS.

Plus, all the iPhone service plans are a royal rip off.

Agreed! I have a droid, but I still think you'll be happier with a web-based page.

it's a great idea! i've already started a spreadsheet for pricing of goods. i'll be making that available online... i vote for an online recipe book - that way, no matter what phone you have, it'll be available.

This is a great suggestion if you have any experience making AJAX rich web content.

A mobile formatted website isn't a bad idea. We are starting to really get into that market at work so it would help dearly. :D

Also wondering... Has anyone searched the ZAM FFXIV database site yet on their droid? Database Site

The ZAM FFXIV database site "works" on my HTC incredible but its not designed or formatted well for the cell phone sized screen. The front page search button that is embedded in the search line is not clickable on my HTC incredible, but if I hit enter after I type a word into the search line it does complete the search. Then when it shows the results page, it has to load the full ZAM page which shows up very small, so I have to zoom in to see the results.

It's always good to have extra resources, too bad I'm not a smartphone user. But just FYI, SE is making an ingame recipe book in the mid dec patch which would store all the recipes you have crafted and learned from leves.
