Maybe I just suck at playing this class but I am having a great amount of difficulty with it. I am only a level 5 so far and the only useful spells I seem to have for attack is the default attack, Phantom Dart, which seems to do little damage, and Banish. I also use Blood Rite to increase magic attack, but even so I can only solo kill mobs with a blue dot. And even those take up a majority of my HP by the end of battle and I have to wait awhile to kill again. Mobs with green dots almost always kill me. I put almost all my points into INT and Piety, which are supposed to increase damage for magic.
I find this very difficult for leveling when my leves are up because it takes so long to kill a simple blue dot mob (when I can even find one not being camped) all for under 100 Thaumaturge points per kill. It could take all day just to gain a single level at best, most of that time being downtime hunting for a uncamped mob or healing from damage.

Am I doing something wrong? how are other Thaumaturges leveling??

I'm currently Conjurer 10 and got Thaumaturge to 10 in the closed beta, so here's one thing to keep in mind.

All other strategies aside, your weapon damage is directly related to it's current "wear" rating. A weapon with a durability at 75% will be less effective than a weapon at 100% durability. A weapon at 25% will be less effective than a weapon at 75% durability.

Repair NPCs can repair your weapon back up to 50% (And Only 50%), if it's currently below 50% durability. This may help you some. Also keep in mind I think Thaumaturges can repair their own weapons with an NPC-purchasable nugget of some sort. Doing this will repair it back to 100% durability.

All that being said, you probably still need to spread out your stats a bit more. I haven't done any of that yet, myself, but there's still a lot to learn in this game.

Hope this helps!

I started leveling Maruader > pug, lancer > glad a lot of crafting / gathering and then magic.

I would suggest taking just an hour or so out of your thurg and level up a melee class or do a little craft or gathering to gain a high physical level. Its fairly quick. then add to some Vit. but mainly a melee class to have a attack or (IE Pug) to get second wind. Somthing to use your TP on. Helps my Magic class a lot.

I am level 15 Thaumaturge and 16 Physical. And i have almost alyways solo lvled and had suprisingly no problems at all! But i do recommend to go out with Vitality stats first becuase increase magic dmg or hit chance wont do you any good especially at LOW level. VIT however increases your health (yes it does, dont know why the game and forums says it doesnt) and supposedly reduce physical dmg taken will give you much more upperhand when it comes to soloing, try it out, Reassign points ^^

Adding to what others have said, if you're using the scepter you can also equip a shield and use that. Of course the problem with that is finding a shield...and for a decent price. But thamaturge starts slow & then starts to get really fun.
