Okay, so correct me if I am wrong. The game consists of doing 8 levequests over a two day period. So even if you take the full half hour to complete these quests, that is 4 hours of content every 48 hours. I was really enjoying this game for the first few hours, until I ran out of quests. I see in the journal, it appears there is room for more than just levequests. Am I missing something and if not, hopefully they just didn't include a lot of the content with the open beta. Unless they do something about the lack of content (i.e. quests) I don't think ill be playing this game for too long.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trashing the game as I think it is amazing. Only commenting on the lack of things to do outside of grinding or crafting.

I know I love the game too but I feel like I am watching one of my kids decide to join a gang and go to jail instead of go to college and get a good job. So much potential just feels like a lot of its going to waste.

In Limsa theres a story called Treasure of the Main... I'm sure theres others for the other towns. It kept me going till level 8 before I even figured out levequests. ^^;

Other than that, try exploring new camps and towns to see if they have anything to offer

You can join others on their leves, but compared to grinding it's not terribly efficient at low levels for raising skill/exp points any. That being said, some are reporting varying time/duration values on their leves and claim to be able to do more than 8 in the 48-hour window. I haven't confirmed this myself.

You can also help others out on their leves. I've asked around camps before if anyone wanted a pocket Lalafell for healing and nuking on their leves in order to up the star rating, so they get better rewards, and a lot of the time people are more than happy to oblige.

Again, it may not be the most efficient for getting skill ups, but since you only fight 3-6 monsters in a leve, anyway, lots opt to bring in more people and join other leves as much as possible, in order to help get more gil.

A few things to keep in mind.

That being said, this is an S-E MMO. Why people think there won't be grinding in it is beyond me. :D Embrace the grinding. hahah. Hypnotoad commands it!

Good luck :)

I did do the Treasures of the Main questline. Also traveled to Ul'Dah in hopes that I could do that starting questline, but couldn't find a starting NPC as don't know who it is. Could anyone who started in Ul'Dah list the starting NPC here and I will see if it is possible to do that questline as well.

there's room for 16 quests in your journal, and sub sections for each discapline, they have just taken the side quests out of the beta.

Each town should have a second quest that starts up once you reach rank/level 10 (Not sure which). I'm unsure if you can pick and choose which of the level 10 mission/quest you do, or if you can do all three, but I'm sure some will report on that later.

Just as a reminder, this is the B E T A folks. That means there are chunks (quite possibly sizable chunks) of content missing. There aren't that many regular quests to be done, no national missions that I've seen, there's a faction system which will likely give out more missions and guildleves... not to mention any events they toss in (there is mention of an Expeditionary Force-esque mission where you recruit a set of adventurers of a certain disciplines and go fight for an area, haven't seen anyone doing this or figured out how to start one as yet). Please stop whining about the lack of content.

This is NOT a DEMO, it's an OPEN BETA, meaning that this is an UNFINISHED FORM of this game.

Everything is more fun in groups and stop treating it like a race to lvl cap! There is so much to do if you look around. Enjoy the game, don't rush.

Seems counterproductive to accuse someone of whining than to merely provide the feedback on whether there will be more content at launch or not. That was the only issue brought up by this thread and was not meant to be a whinefest. But, due to this 'lack of content', I don't think I'll take my chances and preorder till I see first hand if there will be anything else to offer at release. I already assumed that the beta would be sparse on content, but as I have heard no other mention of anything but levequests anywhere I have looked, it seemed to be a cause for concern. Time will tell...

Are you talking about Behest? I haven't tried but you're supposed to speak with the Battlewarden's at Aetheryte Camps to participate in them. I've seen the one at Camp Bearded Rock wandering in the area, there is one that stands in place at Camp Bloodshore as well.

i havent play the game yet but this is my understaning of the guildleave system

8leaves = about 4hours?(im not 100% sure if there are normal leaves apart from classes leaves)
then there are another 8 classes guildleaves which is another 4hours?
and if u planning on lvling another classes that another 4horus = total 8-12hours so far
8-12hours plus crafting 8 crafting leaves? 14hours maybe since crafting leaves wont take as long..

SE want you to lvl more then one class main reason why we have the surplus system

THAT like 10-14hours of guildleaves every 2days and THAT just if you solo them...
and again SE want you to share your guildleaves so if you think about it and share them with a group of ppl you can really do leaves all dayy

8leaves x 6 people = 48leaves.. and THAT ONLY IF everybody in the group shares there leaves

16 Guildleves solo takes much less time than this. Maybe 4-5 hours tops. You can do 4 in about an hour probably.

I'm actually wondering if beta has all the content that it will at launch, NPC quest for one. I can see why you don't really do have them in the game.

Just going to put FFXIV in context with the history of FFXI first year, Thanks to elmers research of course.
Quote:
The World of the FFXI Beta Test
The beta version of Final Fantasy XI was practically complete, but there were still many things missing. Characters could choose from every race, but the selection of faces was much fewer than the final product. The six basic jobs were available: Warrior, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage and Thief. The level cap was set at 35, and players could obtain sub-jobs, but the quest was different than now.
-Entrance to Jeuno Closed
-San d’Oria only consisted of the port, Bastok was only the Mines and Port districts, and Windurst had but the Walls area. Besides Bastok, there was little place to roam in one’s home nation. Home Points were found in each nation, with an additional Home Point placed at each Crag.
-Maps existed for the areas around the three nations, but they lacked coordinates, and were difficult to understand. Also, there were no maps for areas outside of Jeuno. Areas like Valkurm Dunes didn’t even exist yet.

After launch (06/2002)
First Large-Scale Version Update
•Auction House opened.
•Screenshot function added.
•Notorious Monsters implemented.
•The duration of Bind was shortened.
•The guard stationed in North Gustaberg was moved to its current location.
•HQ results for crafting made their appearance.
•The minimum level required to obtain a sub job quest was set to 18.
•DEX bonus added to Sneak Attack. Effect of Treasure Hunter strengthened.
Alot more if you interested @ http://jpbutton.bluegartr.com/?p=157
The point is alot can happen in a short time and I'm sure there is alot down the pipeline we don't even know about.

did anyone ever had a prima group in FFXI? where you only lvl that job with the same group of ppl? im planning on doing this for guildleaves hopefully i can meet a group of 6 that will share 8 guildleaves that about 48 guildleaves all together so im not worrie about running out of things to do

Doesn't change the number of monsters, just their strength. Guildleves are not meant to be the main method of progression, they are there to help out casual players, and for equipment/gil rewards.
