I'd hazard a guess that more people follow what Blizzard does than what SE does. Blizzard spends big money on marketing because they live in forts made out of cash. It's called "branding".
I would hazard you are right because SE is stupid when it comes to marketing and customer relations...or they just don't care about its overseas audience, which is also stupid. That company can double and triple its yearly income if they had the foresight to see what a little advertisement can do for you.
When it comes to advertising ************** the one company that always comes to mind is Bioware. Now you may disagree with me on this but I found Dragon Age ugly outdated on every level by today's standard of games (I understand people liked it, I didn't, i'm not bringing this up to fight over who is right and who is wrong) but holy man did Bioware have me sold on the game. I was so sure i'd love the game when I bought it because they advertised up their *** releasing footage after trailer after interview of all the things in this amazing world of theirs! I can hate on them for making a bad game but they are **** good at promoting their product, SE is decades behind the times. **** my parents recently opened a no name restaurant (no name as in no one knows squat about it) and business was iffy at best, they ended up making about 3000 flyers and distributing them to the closest neighbourhood - the 3000 flyers alone cost about $1000 in total, that money was made back in two days and sales have seen an increase of 100% since. Small things can go really go a long way, no matter how big a company is...i think of fast food corporations too - i mean who doesn't know McDonald's? everyone does, yet you see a commercial on TV every 3 minutes ramming it into your brain that McDonald's still exists.
