I've checked and updated my Directx and my ATI drivers with no luck. I've tried running the game on high, medium and bare minimum settings. I'm able to run the benchmark with no problems and scored 2051. Nothing seems to fix this.

I know that the servers are currently down but surely this wouldn't account for an error with the program itself...

The same thing happened to me while the servers were down, it did work a few times but gave an error that did not crash the application. I think its the servers being down that caused it. Will find out when I finally get the latest patch.

I have this error regardless of server status.
You know you've been playing too many MMOs when:

You pass a cop and wonder if it 'Agroed' you.
Another car passes you, you attempt to /follow it.
You use your "push to talk" key while talking on the phone.
Text-based games You put a /s before every message you type in an IM (or equivalent / command)
(I have done all)
