Mine froze again this morning. So don't jump to conclusions.

Except this time it froze at 0%.

Chalk up another "freezes at 0% and so torrents it himself" to the list.

It's hilarious to open uTorrent and see the counts on the official servers: 980 seeds, 2400 peers, for a 92 byte patch.

I restarted mine 4 times, each time with the same result. Torrented just fine with BitTorrent. Then I tried the next patch, same problem. BitTorrent, done in a minute.

Both files will most likely be found somewhere online for those who cannot torrent, I'm sure.

Albeit that is crappy, but they did advise about it here:

http://support.na.square-enix.com/news.php?id=902&la=1&n=2&drt=1283706600&tag=e79f37a4636f1cc7aef1e199dd58c6110e04a66f

I know that doesn't make it any better, but they did list the affected realms and all, so at least it was mentioned. At least it's better to have a character that works than one that is messed up because of the problems being experienced at the time that may have "broken" some of the characters, as they put it.

I would rather they do that then totally wiping out our characters, but alas, we will have to lose them once the beta is over. I've grown rather attached to mine and taken many pics so I can be sure to try to replicate her when the game goes live.

I'm sorry that has happened to some of us though, but look on the bright side - you get to experience it all over again! =D

j/k - you can smack me now! =P

I agree with the OP, I think the client is working better this time around. I think everyone mistrusts the client so much now they aren't patient at all. My torrent d/l was at 0% for about 4 min then finally connected and d/l'ed in about 3 seconds. The patch file connected right away and took about 6 seconds to d/l.

Mine did this at first, just restarted and left it alone for about 15 minutes and it worked.

I don't mistrust it, it's crap. I opened it, let it create the torrent, then tossed it immediately into a working torrent. It started and finished in LESS than the 4 minutes you waited.

The client needs a rewrite, or better yet to be scrapped for an actual downloader.

Not to mention, the official downloader _LAGS_.

Not only does it have the Software Mouse problem, it also freezes up for 3-5 seconds at a time and it can take nearly 10 seconds sometimes to realize that you pressed the "Cancel" button (if you can even get your cursor ON the Cancel button!), yadda yadda.

The computer can run the game itself with all of its graphical glory at 30-ish FPS, but yet the freaking downloader causes the computer to stutter?

They need to scrap the fancy graphics -- all we need is something that grabs the files and updates the game. Keep the fancy-schmancy graphics to the game itself, please.

The updater uses up far, far too many CPU resources for all it does. uTorrent doesn't even come close to the resource usage that the official updater uses.

I'm stuck at 0% too, the the downloader is timing out every 3 mins or so, how do you get the patch from Utorrent and what do you do with it ?

Yes please explain. I would like to hear more details about this and possibly where the information originated.

This has not been so much confirmed as alluded to. In the latest interview, Square Enix representatives commented that they were contemplating various ways to add low-key PvP events to the game.

Thank you for that information. It pretty much just states that we will probably have FFXI-like pvp events like ballista then. I can accept that. I just want SOME kind of pvp. I don't care how its implemented.

Froze at 0% for both patches...

I hope they keep working on this - while I love torrents for patches, this is the strangest implementation I have ever seen.
