Changing from DoL to DoM early on. Bad idea?Follow

I've been trying out a few different characters while I decide if I still want to get the game on release. I thought it might be good to start out with botanist to get my physical level up a bit and gather some mats for crafting, and then change to conjurer which is what I want to be in the long run. I got to level 5 and changed to conjurer to do some combat leves and I had trouble killing even the most basic things. I then realised that my armor was intended for a gatherer, but I didn't think it would make much difference at low level. Just wondering, is it a bad idea to do what I tried? I'm not sure why other than the armor, but it just doesn't seem to be working at all.

That extra physical level could've only helped. What did you put your stats into each level? Maybe reallocate some into VIT & MND for defense if that's your biggest problem. I'm not sure how weak the DoL gear is at the start, but there should be a vendor in town with level1 stuff & you can search bazaars & the market ward for better gear. Also as a conjurer, early on it's actually better to kind of play it as a melee job. Use mostly the spirit darts. If you're still having trouble a DoW might do the trick.

I put around 60% in to INT and the rest split between MND and PIE. Things seem to be getting a bit better as I progress. It's definitely much harder than when I started out with a DoW though. Just wasn't sure if other things could be affecting it. I probably just need to find some more appropriate gear though, thanks.
