Hi All, I started playing the beta today and got started pretty well (the whole process was very smooth for me). I jumped right into the game with a Pug following the main quest and all the leve quest in camp beardrock.

Problem is, I've finished the first main quest and all the leve quests. I'm Physical level 7 and Pug level 4. I've been running around trying to figure out what to do next. The next tier of level quests are at level 10 (the mobs are insanely hard). I would just go and grind some levels, but the competition for mobs is so high. There seems to be about 5 people for a wharf rat. This is a low population server by the way (Fabul).

So just wondering if any of you high level folks out there have any advice? How did you get through this? Did you even get stuck like me? Thanks for any advice or responses in advance.

P.S. Let me know if this should've been posted in a different section of the forums.

Everyone is milling about in the same area. If you want a reasonable supply of mobs to grind happily away at for a while, try moving away from the main camps. Also, if you see a cave, go check it out. I was messing around with lancer a little earlier and just wandered the roads back and forth killing rats for the first while just to get a feel for the class. The farther I got from Bearded Rock, the fewer people there were but there were rats all along the road in even the higher level areas. I've also found a couple of caves not far from bearded rock that have few (if any) people in them and all kinds of juicy mobs to skill up on. The people who are willing to traverse off the beaten path are the ones who get to avoid the crowds and enjoy themselves without having to compete for each and every spawn.

Exactly lol, look at the map, it's huge. explore a bit and you will find a great place. I know i got a small cave to myself and i havent seen another player in hours lol. And it's full of rats!

Too many people confine themselves to immediately around the camp. There's low level mobs all throughout the zone to a certain extent. You just need to explore.

I notice that the area around Gridania has much better mob density as well.

I did find a nice leveling spot which isn't very populated (talk about going way out of your way). Downtime is a healing break after every 2 mobs, but it sure beats running around trying to find a spare rat.

Thank you guys for the advice though. I do appreciate it.

While on the topic of advice (and I'm sure I won't be on the same wavelength as you guys here). Where do I get a better weapon - not to mention, where do I learn any new skills? The shop in Limsa sells the same thing I started with....its so last century!! AAAAHHHH!!

A better weapon can be crafted or bought from someone who crafted it. Some Levequests also offer rewards, but haven't seen any with a weapon as reward yet.

You learn new skills by levelling up you rank :)
