Oh im tolerant my man. I just dont take kindly to people purposely derailing threads from positive discussion into pure negativity. But hey, it's the internetz right?

Let's hear what everyone else loves about FFXIV!

edit:

Every single positive thread gets killed by pessimists.

But yeah this thread has been officially derailed by yet another cry baby. We need to make forums where it's fanboys only. Even then I swear the wowtards would somehow get onto them.

edit:

Does wowtard offend you i take it? And yes lol, I'm glad SE doesnt care about pleasing the masses of A.D.D. players. I got no shame in admitting that.

I'm a happy go lucky guy until someone is an idiot. Like coming into a thread titled "I love this game" and spouting complaint after complaint. In my opinion that's trolling.

Edited, Sep 7th 2010 2:05pm by Soezu

Well, if you must know, I quit FFXI in 2006 to go play EQ2. I played that for a couple years, then quit playing online MMOs altogether to try and lose some weight and get laid.

Last year I got married, stopped going out every night, and now I'm trying to gain back to 90 lbs I lost.

WoW isn't even the tiniest bit a factor in my "idiot" opinions.

Anyways, he's right, I'm a ******. I think I'll go back to being my wowtarded self, and go play WoW with my wiends.

Well at least you're honest.

Cya man, was nice knowin ya. (however I do get the feeling you're just pulling my chain and you'll be back posting complaints before the night's over)

I all honesty, I didnt mean to be a **** about it. I just hate seeing people post complaints in an obviously positive thread. We have enough negative threads, the positive ones dont need to be ruined too. So apologies, I'm sure you arent really a ******. And I do understand what "to each his own" means. But I really hope SE doesnt change the way they make their games to please the masses. And that's sort of what you're asking for.

I was trying to be constructive in my criticism, but I did choose the wrong thread. I apologize for that. I'll be back, just not in this thread.

In regards to SE cow-towing to "the masses", I just see that as being beneficial for everyone. More support, more servers, more people to play with, and more content. Just because they acquiesce to your style of game play shouldn't lock them into denying other styles of game play to exist as well. My point is, you can make everyone happy these days, just give us options.

I never thought that. Like I said your OP started out on topic but quickly turned into a nerd raging rant full of complaints.

But i do think you dont know how to read thread titles and just post your complaints anywhere.

I share your sentiments, I'm loving everything about this game. I just bought an EVGA 1gb GTX 460 graphics card to replace the 9600gt im currently using, it chugs along, only about 8-12 fps in most zones. but even with that im really enjoying this game. i cant wait to see where the storyline goes. im addicted to the class leveling system, just discovered the retainer/market zones lol. i havent posted anything on here cause ive been too busy playing the game or working, i have wednesday off and i plan on playign all day if the servers allow me too haha.

I love it more and more each day!

The first day we were supposed to apply for the open beta was frustrating for us all because it got backed up a day. The second day, it was even more frustrating because they said we could try again but still no go as they were having technical problems. I finally gave up on my attempts to download and/or get a beta key sent to me . . . until the 3rd day!

Finally, I had allowed the beta to download all night and the next day I got my key, so I put it all together and was ready to play! However, by that time they were already doing an emergency maintenance to the game. By now, I was getting so frustrated – I just wanted to play dang it! See what it was like and if it was worth the money I planned to put out on it.

Then, that first day played was frustrating with shut-downs and confusion over how to go about playing in the first place. I am a Final Fantasy “virgin” so I had no idea how the basics worked in the game. However, through all the frustration, I could see this was a game I wanted to play.

Finally, after working with it and playing all Labor Day weekend, by Monday I was loving this game so much I didn’t even mind the crashes that happened several times throughout the day – I just wanted to get back in there and do all the new things I had been learning. Even use of the mouse cursor was behaving better by Monday!

So, even though at times things have been very frustrating, this game is most definitely worth it! They’ll get the kinks out eventually – that’s the whole point of letting us play it ahead of time – to test it and fix it. I can hardly wait till the actual live game gets here!

The one thing that I am hopeful they may change, though, is the “one character only unless you pay for more” thing. I really wish they’d rethink that position. I love variety and therefore I would like at least 2-3 characters of different races without having to pay extra for them, but even with just one, I think I’ll have plenty to do and I will love playing this game.

~M~

No, we don't need to make a forum where it's fanboys only. That is a terrible idea. That's not how you have a conversation.. that's just ************* You need to find a way to become tolerant of other peoples opposing beliefs. That's really all there is to it.

I love this game a lot. What I like best is that it has really drawn me into aspects of play that FFXI failed to engage me in at all - specifically gathering and crafting. Right now Conjurer is 10 for me but goldsmith is not far behind at 9 - that would have NEVER happened in FFXI. I love the crafting and gathering minigames. I find them relaxing.

every mmo out there has a wiki, database, and forums. When ffxi was released, these types of things were just starting to become popular so I can see where it would appear to have been successful. I don't really consider that a community. How the world interacts together, and how efficiently that can be facilitated is more my idea of community.

Let me get this straight, you don't consider what FFXI did as building a community? If I interpreted that correctly, then I must humbly disagree with you. I wasn't talking about wiki, databases or forums - FFXI was tight knit from head to toe for many reasons - yes it was forced on the player but in the end it turned out great. I would log into FFXI in the morning and people would be shouting good morning to each other, having conversations with one another...sometimes I'd spend hours in Jeuno just sitting there with a group of people chatting (not looking for party, not questing, not raiding, chatting). Sometimes with our linkshells we'd sit there just talking to each other - there were LS's that even held LS events such as the naked run to Jeuno from whatever city and whoever got there first wins a prize etc...I would call this a community more than any other MMO I've played.

The way FFXI was built, with forced partying to advance and basically forced partying to do a lot of the harder quests, and the need to talk to other adventurers to get information and again the need to upkeep a good reputation - indirectly this stuff built a very good community. I hope FFXIV gives us half as good a community as FFXI, I'd be happy with that, and it seems like the game loosened FFXI's grip a little but still wants you to interact with others to move up so i'm hopeful this'll happen with time.

if we're discussing the social aspects of mmos, in general, most of them are the same. you have your world community, and the local "guild/linkshell/clan/whatever" community. i'm going to say in regards to revolutionizing in-game communities, FFXI was no more pioneering in this than any other mmo released. of course, they all have their intricacies and interdependent features but for the most part they are all built around the same premise.

my point still remains, you can cater to both types of players and not break the back of the game or cause a disadvantage to either player type. game developers have figured this out and have been doing it for 5 years. i'm not going to critique what SE has or has not done with FFXIV because quite frankly, the game is obviously unfinished so we'll just have to wait and see.

BTW - That what's-his/her-name who was making such awful remarks about Americans, I didn't mind what Measure said at all compared to what's-his/her-name turning it into a name-calling match. That was so uncalled for and inappropriate.

So anyway, this is the Love thread, so let's keep on lovin the game! This Proud to be an American is getting ready to head home and love the game some more! Cyas!

Good times! Happened to one of my parties once already. Except replace cuddly dodos with curious cactaur.

Do love watching those dodo trains stampeding through Camp Drybone though. Chasing their newest victim, with the devil in their eyes...nothing but feather's and death all over the camp. Hilarious. Almost as awesome as Crawler's Nest/Garliage Citadel trains way back in the day, before the mob-despawn patch. Now those were the days~

Ya, this game is win already.

I really feel the opposite of this. When I first turned it on and started running around.. I was totally disappointed.. almost uninstalled it and never looked back. But I hung in there because I'll always be a slight FF fanboy deep inside and as I started to understand what was going on I am finding it more and more beautiful as I go. But, that's just me.

I can't say I LOVE this game. It's good, it's intriguing, and it does leave you wanting for more of it. But my love for it will only come if, after launch, SE actually listens and responds to our concerns.

Sure thing. I'll take some screenshots tommorrow, it's late now. I'll mention the settings I can remember.
Everyhting is set to highest except for these parameters:

Buffer Rate: Resolution (instead of double resolution)
2X Anti-Alising (instead of 4x or 8x. 4x runs fine but hiccups a bit in busy towns so i turned it to 2)
Ocular Oclussion and other check boxes are off (2 others, cant remember)

I will very occasionally get a lower fps in busy camps or at the guildleve counter, but its never even close to unplayable, in fact i barely notice it as being different from server lag.

That doesn't look bad at all, if the fps is good then a lower end machine might be a viable option for me.

I may yet be able to play the game before PS3 release.

In all honesty, the graphics settings dont make much of a difference. The game still looks brilliant on the lowest settings. But from my experience, even the highest settings dont reduce performance by much. It doesnt matter what your settings are, the game is a resource hog and gonna suck up almost everything your PC has. Heck even the intro screen sucks up 50% CPU usage lmao, and all it is is a white screen with the FFXIV logo lol. In game it hovers around 85% regardless of max/min settings.

I ran fraps and the game hovered between 27-32 FPS. The lowest is dropped was 23. Not shabby.

Screenshots can look good but they don't actually show you how good or bad the system is at rendering the game. I can deliver some fantastic screenshots on some pretty awful PCs but that doesn't mean a whole lot.

Wow, you got a bit trollish yourself there. American gamers spout racial slurs every 5 seconds? really? I'm pretty sure I'm an American gamer and I don't do that. I also am pretty positive racism is not exclusive to Americans. You just don't understand enough other languages to experience it as often.

Why not just let that guys comment fade into nonexistence instead of back-lashing with a ridiculous amount of hate? Could have done without reading your crap.

I understand your defense on these remarks about Americans doing things like this in mmos but its more or less true to an extent. Why? Because I am an American and I have done these things and I know other Americans do also. Lets be honest now ok, sure not all Americans do these things but a good majority do and even if you don't yourself, at least admit that in general they do.

Now will I make racial slurs or talk crap in chat in FFXIV? Never... I have have done these things in other games sure but I regret it and don't intend to do it again. Its a fault I must say, of the culture I have been brought up in and I am not proud of it.

Ok now I am sorry I don't mean to hi-jack this thread again so I'll conclude it here and lets have more positive comments on FFXIV!!!

So racism IS exclusive to Americans because you and a couple of your friends have done.. something? I'm not even sure what it is you've done because in your next paragraph you then said you don't spout racist remarks. Which is it?

So, now I'm completely confused and even if I weren't your logic isn't very sound. What do you and your friends have to do with Americans not being the only racists in the world?

I am enjoying the game very much. I don't think I have been into a new game this much since my early days of FFXI. Bugs aside, this game feels suited to my play style as I don't mind level grinding, I love fishing, and I like the crafting mechanic. I didn't think I was going to like the fighting UI, but I have grown accustomed to it.

The one thing I am really hoping for is the feeling of accomplishment I had in FFXI when I level capped my first job and capped cooking a year later. The 1-1/2 year journey to 75 felt so worth it somehow.
