I was trying to repair blacksmith tool "Weathered Cross-pein Hammer" myself. The tool cannot be repaired while it's equipped but when I remove it from my gear then I'm no longer a blacksmith and I get a message saying I can't repair the tool because I'm not the right class. I tried repairing it as armorer but that wasn't the right class either. Am I missing something?

Hey, that's funny. Yeah maybe ya need a backup around to switch back n forth, quickly repairing the other.

Hmm...oh yeah I couldn't buy a 2nd scepter for my thm when I already had one of the same kind...perhaps find one of the other hammers? Not the identical type...then you could pull it off...or discard 'em for new 1s now & then

In this game you always have to be a certain class, therefore you always have to have something equipped, so in order to unequip the pickaxe just equip something else in its place.

This brings to light an intriguing question:

How was the first hammer in Eorzea made?

The entire durability/repair system was poorly thought out on SE's part. Gear currently decays entirely too fast and it's an enormous pain in the *** to repair it. They need to adjust it or chuck the whole thing.

That may be truth but it's still doable.

But how can they ask us to repair a tool for a craft with that same craft!?... it's really not my intention to feed the fire but is the game system lacking like this bad?

What about make blacksmith able to repair every other tool except blacksmith, then repair blacksmith's with Armorer, that way at least we can repair it instead of toss it and grab a new one, which by the way defeats the purpose of the whole system.... - -;

PITA to do... but buy another jobs weapon, equip it and toss your old hammer. Then buy a new one and just equip that one. It's what I do when my thaumy wand goes into the red. At least until I can get my hands on a non Rare/EX level 1 weapon.

I agree that gear decay is altogether too rapid. And if I decide to buy the game, I'm hoping they address the broken underwear bit real soon, because that little red icon at the top of my screen is a nuisance.

As far as the hammers go, you can't buy a second hammer from the vendor because they're Unique/No trade items. You'd need to get a non-bound hammer (ie. Bronze Cross-Pein Hammer) and use them interchangeably with one repairing the other. In the meantime, you can still get your current hammer repaired up to 50% so you're not going to go out of business, but unless SE changes the way it currently works folks would be well advised to keep two hammers on hand ASAP.
