Something strange with durability.Follow

After a couple hours mining close to the surface (top choice on first mining UI) I decided to try going the other way round and choose what's probably the equivalent to a deep vein. As soon as I finished mining that I got my Durability Icon which lead me to believe that because I was trying to go deeper into the rock at mearlly rank 2 or 3 I probably just damaged my Pick.

The following night I actually went into the equipment menu after getting the icon to red and pay attention. For some reason my mining pick was actually alright, it was my pants/shorts/trouser that were at 0 durability.

This just feels weird to me, as a Miner I haven't had any fight (besides the introduction in Ul'dah), haven't died, I haven't even agroed a mob and taken a hit.

I can understand reduced durability from using a tool/weapon, and armour from being hit in combat but getting to 0 durability in cloths without any fights in what I think were at most 5 hours gametime just doesn't seem right!

Any similar experiences?

Well I haven't experienced this but I know there is armor in the game especially for DoL/DoM classes so this is an extension of armor durability onto those - I agree its kinda weird losing armor durability from something like mining, it'd be smarter to just mine in the nude unless you have something on specifically helping your cause.

Not bad idea, probably just keep the original weathered clothes for it, we don't wanna scare the poor damsels with my tanned, sweaty, rock hard muscles!

I noticed this too. So now I have to remember to remove all my Melee gear before I switch classes to mine/log that one point I came across. Same with DoH. Anything that doesn't give Craftsmanship or other related stats(was there even an explanation for these anywhere?) you should switch out to avoid damaging.

One question: If you have your offhand weapon equipped, but are using your main-hand for the synth, will it take damage as well? I noticed that mine was damaged a bit but I don't remember using it ever.

Yup... First time I tried Botanist in this version of beta, several pieces of equipment hit red. I can kinda understand it, as certain armor has stats on that benefit the non-fighting classes, so it'd almost be unfair for their armor not to get damaged.

... Still, it feels silly.

I can confirm this.
Gear loses durability when crafting, mining, logging,... quite alot to be honest.
If you think about it it makes sense but it could also still be a bug.
I wouldn't mind losing some durability on my gear if it gave some bonus to the crafting, mining, etc.
Otherwise I see lot's of naked people running around in the future...hmm, that might be not so bad at all...no wait, naked Roegadyn...AAAHHHH my eyes! ^^

They really should just make it that particular piece is helping with what you are currently doing then it loses durability, and if not, then it doesn't get effect at all.

With all of the different pieces of gear, the lag, and the UI, this just makes the system even more cumbersome than it already is.
