FWIW I found the auction house in Limsa Lominsa. Its across from the Arcanist Guild at the docks. Not operational atm but door has AH symbol on it. Please though come up with a better mail system than FFXI. How about mail boxes like wow or Aion?

Old news, has been there for a while, SE just doesn't want to release it. Why? I don't know.

They want to see how the retainer system works. There has been talk of them developing a FFXI-esque AH for some time now, but it won't be ready/finished in time for release.

AH please. :\

Should be kinda obvious that you have a bad system when you have to eliminate alternatives just to get people to use it.

Idk, people are stubborn concerning change. For instance, the keyboards we use are horribly inefficient (if you notice all the most used keys are separate and off to the sides)but if someone introduced a more efficient keyboard people probably wont use it because they got used to the current one.

The developers want to force a new system in hopes of changing how buying and selling works in MMO's but they were also smart enough to know that they may need to change back to a regular AH down the road.

You have a point. Just about every MMO has an AH, Bank, and mail system. One interesting twist is Aion's account bank slots that allows you share items between characters without using mail. I hope 14 comes out with original concepts, instead of being just same old same old.

Guild Wars had a similar system, however, since you can be multiple classes with one character in ffxiv i doubt that it's a priority for the developers.

While I agree with the idea that people don't change unless you force them to, the way I see it the retainer system is a step (or 3) back. I played MMOs before Auction Houses. It was ****** and complicated.

Replacing the AH with a bunch of individual vendors is the equivalent of saying "the keyboard is complicated and flawed. Let's get rid of it and instead force people to type with their mouse." Just because something is flawed doesn't mean you should scrap it entirely. It's just the wrong attitude.

P.S., I reminded myself of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BnLbv6QYcA

Great analogy!

Even if the retainer system has search, it would basically be like an AH anyway? The main difference being that it would be in an instance.

Soooo, put the AH in an instance?

Right now it's such a chore to browse, there's no point in using the retainer system unless: 1. SE just wants to kill our time. 2. To try and make it more role playing by browsing goods. 3. Or just use the retainer as a form of storage.
