I thought I figured it out that I wanted to be a Hyur so then I can see all the equipment in full glory, but then I made another Lala just to see and it now rekindled my love for the Taru all over again ><

I don't know what to do help me...

Hyur Pros? Armor will look cool

Lalafell Pros ? Cute and Funny, watching them melee is awesome........
Cons clothes might look ugly or cute?

any help will be appreciated

Lalafell, looking ugly? I have my doubts.

It doesn't matter. The stat differences are nigh nonexistent for the moment.

I played a Taru all through FFXI, and Gnome in WoW, so i like playing the short race, but the running animation gets to me so far for the lalafell's. Im sure ill get over it, but i wish they would have kept the slow stride rather than the quick sprint looking animation.

Yeah that's the one thing I don't like about them. They look awkward when they run, but maybe that's just because I'm so used to playing FFXI as a taru where they take long, slow strides.

I think I am in exactly the same boat. I played a Hume all through FFXI, because I liked to be able to see the detail of the armor. However, I always longed to be a little Taru Taru.

However, with the bodies of the Lalafell being less squashed than Taru were, you can see pretty good armor detail. (That is, if you can get past their speedy little legs)

Lalafell pros: You can have a super-villian moustache, a Gomez Addams moustache, and a Frank Zappa moustache.
Lalafell cons: You look positively stupid when you run.

same exact conundrum for me. i dont wanna pick either and then regret the choice.
i'll take a more psychological approach to this:

playing as a hyur is cool because you can take screenshots and bam, youve got an actual human being as the character in the shot. as a hyur, you can relate to the character more and experience the world from an outsider (human)'s perspective. when i see my hyur character, i see me (or at least a protagonist i can relate to). when you see a large monument, or monster, it's because it's actually large.

as a lalafell, everything looks large. when you play as one, its fun and you feel fast, but you dont see yourself in the character. the best way to play a lalafell, if youre looking for immersion, is to pretend its a youthful boy/girl (like ness from earthbound or young link from zelda).

when you take screenshot with your lalafell in it, the character can often ruin the beauty of the picture simply because you automatically make it a 'game' screenshot. with a hyur, you can take any screenshot and it's fine that a human is in the shot. but with a lalafell, you suddenly have a youthful midget taking up screenspace - people who do not play the game will be like "wtf is that?"

when playing the game, you may want to try a bunch of different weapons on a hyur for the same reasons you in real life would want to try a weapon out. if you like guns, youd want your hyur to try them out. if you like polearms, then you can give one to your hyur - this feels 'cool' because youre projecting yourself into the game. also, you're seeing a cool human being with cool weapons.
with a lalafell, it doesnt feel the same. if you like guns, you may not give one to your lalafell because it may either look silly, too 'cute', or not suitable. even if you LOVE guns, and give one to your lalafell, it won't feel as 'cool' to you because you arent seeing a cool human being weilding a cool weapon, youre seeing a cute midget with a cool weapon.

when you play the game and get new equips, you wanna see what it'd look like on a person, not a little boy/midget. when you get a cool new cuirass, and equip it on the lalafell, it doesnt feel as awesome as if you were to equip it on a hyur.
when you play, and have an IDEAL cool-kickass-awesome fighter/warrior/mage in mind, its a human-like character. its hard to envision a lalafell as the ideal avatar to play as to the endgame.

if you were tossed into a world with tons of cool weapons and abilities, you wanna see yourself (a human-like race) use them.

when you play as a lalafell, there is not much to look forward to in the 'cool' department. no matter what cool stuff you get, your avatar will never look cool. and im not talking about it being 'small'. im talking about the lack of emotional and relatable connection.

advancing a lalafell through the ranks isn't as enjoyable because there's never an 'ideal avatar' goal to shoot for. as a hyur, you want your avatar to look really cool and confident and able at high levels. as a lalafell, you wont ever accomplish that look, so it takes a LOT of fun out of advancement.

Haha along with the sweet facial hair one of the voices you can give them sounds all haggard and rough. I can just picture them with a cigarette and a beer

In FFXI I often regretted having a taru because as you said, more often than not, your shiny new gear makes no visible change (mainly hands and feet). I don't see this being as big a problem this time around because the bodies are much more proportioned. Of course a more normal kind of body would show off gear even better..

However, this is the main reason I still tend to choose the Taru : Although all races run at the same speed, you just FEEL faster when you're tiny. Whenever I would log on to my Mithra mule in FFXI, I would be like "OH GOD this thing moves so slow! How do they stand it?!"

And for that reason alone, even though it's an illusion, i will make a Taru again.

I have this exact problem My Lalafell is great to watch her run around, she looks so funny doing everything and her emotes are fantastic/cute as ****. Yet on my Hyur I can see the "full glory" of my equipment, the emotes aren't as good but I get a "cooler" looking character and equipment upgrades are much more visually satisfying.

I too, am really stuck on this decision. I don't know what to do :(

My mules were all Taru for that exact same reason (my main was Elvaan, though). I made the mistake of making a Galka mule once; he got deleted and replaced by a Taru really quickly.

Me too.. I love the way my hyur looks (totally hot!) - and I won't play a female taru/lala because they look sexless and creepy to me... so I have to play a boy if I wanna play taru but I love how fast they seem when piloting them and I always played taru...

but I am going to play a "shortest" hyur instead I think because I've gotten really attached to my character already.

I've sort of went back to the drawing board with my character too. I was pretty set on midland hyur male. But after experimenting a lot, I have a few issues: 1) The female characters are _hot_! who wouldn't want to be looking at that for hours a day! 2) The male hyur with the only beard. The beard is all angular and weird looking. The facial hair for the other midlanders is strange too. So I might instead go with a highlander mage. Weird, right? :P

I like lalafell's alot. but small character models usually look bad, and have horrible combat animations.

this time around i wasnt exactly happy with the proportions. i havnt seen what the later level armor on a lala look like so i am scared haha

however i cant play a female character (my girlfriend would never forgive me) and she voted i play lala haha. so i think its chops for me ;)

I have definably decided to go with hyur. Its correct you can relate to it more and I always get a kick out of making it look as much like me as possible so friends go... WHAT!? its.. its... you?

I will be Midlander Hyur also because they have even starting stats so if a couple years down the line I want to swap to a different job I will have a level playing field. Lalafell will definably be my mule, but a mule for cute emotions silly running... something I could not live with 24/7.

This is my verdict, I am still interested to hear all of yours :)

I agree, the Lalfell are weird to me. They way they run really turns me off. Tarutaru had a "floaty" run animation, but Lalafell look weird, even if it may be more realistic. The way Lalafell walk is also really stupid looking. It looks like they're trying their hardest not to run.

Tarutaru floaty run (at beginning):

Lalafell hyperspeed run:

Taru run was like watching someone run through a daisy field in slowmo. I like the energetic lalafell run

The beards are a big let down. I really wanted to be an old bearded man. I always liked being that old wise, grizzly looking man with a white/grey beard who looked like he could be a tough as nails grizzled warrior or a wise wizard.... or a retired fisherman. I really despize the clean-cut, spikey hair, faced markings, youthful 20yr old looking characters... its lke someone picking the character model of the cool, hip kid you wanted to be in high school but weren't.

facial type 3 is a grizzled man. and the highlanders have a more middleage look to them too

This is only beta remember, do you think they will have more facial hair options for release? And what do you think about being able to change your character once it has already been made?
