Character Model Flickering?Follow

#1 Sep 07 2010 at 5:09 PM Rating: Good
Am I the only person who gets this bug? It's a graphical bug where, randomly, a character model will 'flicker'.

It's most noticeable when you're looking at a dead/sitting character, and they, for a split second (one frame), appear standing up.

It happens to all character models ingame as far as I can see. It's totally random - sometimes it happens a lot and sometimes you dont see it happen.

A good way to see is, load up a new gridania character. When you're standing in the forest in front of the 2 feinted npcs, just stand and wait, and you will see them flicker to a standing position randomly.

Am I the only one with this error? Has it been brought up before?

No you're not, i've been seen it too. I think it is a programming problem, and not a problem with our graphics cards. They will probably get around to fixing this at some point. For know i can live with it, it's not happening that often.

Nah you aren't. I thought it was my graphics card at first as well but then I turned off the overclock on it and things still persisted. It likes to do it on me when I log or mine.

Noticed it too, though it seems to be toned down a lot after these last few patches. Whereas it used to be almost a constant "jitter" after the initial flicker, now it may flicker say, once or twice, and then correct itself for the rest of my session.

Could also be because I changed classes though, as it seems to just be an animation glitch or something, and fishing isn't always as active as say, a conjurer. Perhaps the client isn't correctly registering/predicting where the character model is at the time of the flicker (due to a bug or lag from the server monitoring progs), and tries to compensate or correct it by resetting the model, causing the problem we see. Either way, you're not crazy, others see it too. And it should be gone at launch, if not soon after...hopefully :P

oh okay thanks guys, hopefully this is fixed, along with the wonky running animations.

run side-to-side, or in a circle, or even zigzag down a road, and see how completely silly it is.

I've been getting this since I started playing in CB3. I have to say though, the latest patch made it a lot worse. My character cannot go more than 5 minutes without some animation glitch.

Edit: Here's a video of it. Sorry about the resolution, forgot about my FRAPS settings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKcL0Kvoa-0

Put yourself in auto-run and then use A D to move left to right, it becomes smooth then. When holding W and using A D it is responding to the command to sharply turn left or right. ffxi is like this too.

I haven't noticed any flickering so far, but I have noticed where some NPCs during cutscenes don't register properly. For example... When the Goobbue goes on a rampage towards the end of Ul'dah's opening CS there's normally a Hyur who grabs and pulls the young girl out of the way. It's happened only once so far but the man stood there suspended in mid-air instead of grabbing her. Everything else went along smoothly (It still acted as if someone had pulled her out of the way.) and when the scene cleared showing the Goobbue laying face down the man was on the ground next to the girl. For some reason it just didn't play his sequence with him grabbing her.

Other than that and other minor bits during cutscenes I've yet to notice more than people getting up after being dead just before they teleport away.

I use a controller. And I'm not talking about 'sharp'ness of the turning, im talking about how you can get your character to ice-skate or freeze in one stance while moving around due to the bulky animations
