What do you think of the map font?
I want to take a bat to my head while trying to read it.:104 (52.8%)
Meh.:61 (31.0%)
It's so wonderful and immerses me into the game!:32 (16.2%)
Total:197

Seriously, I'm feeling myself getting sucked into the game, but the one thing that always zaps me back into reality is the dang map font. I am pretty sure I hate it with every fiber of my being.

I hate it, but I'd like to see a dozen other things changed before the map font. ¬_¬

I don't find it to be all that horrible, if you know what you're looking for most of the time it is at least distinguishable. It does seem to be english, just letters that are cut in half or slightly changed.

Yeah, it's in English, it's just that some letters are upside down and backwards.

It would be a GREAT idea... if it were

1: In real English, and translated by region
2: clearly written
3: useful information

It's one of 3 atm, since you could say "Meet me at XX bridge", but until that XX is filled with a name that you can type in, it's garbage.

I'm fine with them using a goofy font for immersion, but I'd really love a toggle for displaying them in legible english.

Great idea about the toggle, could be like holding scroll lock to make the UI go away. +1 to you.

My head hurts trying to read it. I'm hoping that over time I will adjust to it or SE fixes it. Not putting much hope in the latter.

I've generally been able to figure out what each label is trying to say. I went with meh, its a bit too hard to read, but the immersion is nice, however they really could have found a font that was a tad more legible.

Maybe they plan to add a cartographer class in the future and you will have to pay to have your map decrypted.

Go look at it again, its in clear english, its just using a retarded font. Like the first mission in limsa said something like goto zephyr gate. The map says Zephyr or zephyr gate.

I didn't even pay attention to the words on the map lol. I had to set graphic setting so low, the letters are too pixelated to read anyway. But yeah it would be nice if they used real-life English with that pretty medieval-looking font.

I actually like it. It remind me of Tokien's alphabets and the alphabet from FFXIII. After a while, you'll learn the different letters.

Go to http://www.ffxivmaps.com/, scroll down to the letters and you will see each letter and its English form. Most of the letters are pretty common sense if you really look at them except things like H's looking like K's and A's looking like B's.

funny thing is, if you really FOCUS on reading the letters it can be quite frustrating, but if you just glance over the words you usually make out what they say. Think its a shorthand kind of thing.

So a pirate walks into a bar. He has a wooden leg, a hook and an eyepatch.

The bartender says "Had some rough times I see, how did you lose your leg?"

"Sharks!", the pirate replied.

"Ouch. Did they they take your hand too?", asked the Bartender.

"No lad, I lost me hand in a swordfight!", the pirate exclaimed proudly.

"Wow, how did you lose your eye then?"

The pirate replied, "I looked up at the wrong moment and a seagull shat in me eye."

"You lost your eye to seagull droppings?!"

"Well son," the pirate replied, "It was me first day with the hook."

Great, so the maps were written by Seamus from Family Guy.

Thread title is very biased. How are we supposed to get an accurate poll like that?

On a serious note, I think it looks like a 5 year old designed it. Did they just turn the E around? Was that supposed to be cute? Ugh.

So, I printed it out and will keep it handy for translations. After a while, I'm sure I won't need it at all. /eyeroll

OTOH... that countdown clock, I sat here and watched it for maybe a minute. I'm sure that's not a good sign.

LOL great post Pikko!

I have to agree with you, the maps are almost unreadable. ATM, I simply look for icons, arrows and the basic shapes of areas to locate positions on the map... and of course the # coordinates which work fine in the field but are should not be as necessary in town I would think. @_@
