Having trouble getting any water shards in Ul'dah. All that are in bazaars are insanely over priced. Anyone willing to share a good way to get them in Ul'dah?

Crystals seem to be more centered around regions. I've noticed I get more Wind crystals in the Limsa region. More Fire crystals in the Ul'dah region. I'm not sure exactly where a good place is for Water though.

Do you think it could be expected to travel and mine/fish/log/fight in all the different areas to supply yourself with proper crystals?

Hopefully they'll be easily purchasable if/when we get some sort of Retainer Search System or *knock on wood* Auction House.

As for the closed beta, you may need to stumble through the Market Wards and look through all the retainers there.

Fishing is proving to be a reliable way to get them, at least for me. I'm also currently testing in Ul'dah.

Fishers even get "Thaliak's ward" eventually, which "Temporarily increases your chance to obtain water crystals." So grab a rod, or make a friend!

EDIT** Makes me curious as to why I get so many earth and water shards. Those also happen to have my highest, alloted elemental wheel points. Possibly modifies gathering potential?

EDIT 2** Ha! As soon as I went back to the forum index, I found this post. So maybe they are related to gathering after all? Seems iffy but possible...need to go reassign stats later to test~

Water also drops pretty heavily near limsa lamsa. I spent an hour farming there and had a couple hundred wind and water shards.

Water shards in a desert/savanna? Shard drops favour regions and weather you get in that region (favours not limits). There is a lot of rain and wind in Limsa, dust and sand storms in Ul'dah and thunderstorms/rain in Gridania.

Your best bet is to take the ferry to Limsa from Ul'dah, it's just to the west and only a 10 minute walk and 15 minute boat ride and you arrive right in the city of Limsa Lominsa.

See also here for interresting discussion and findings.

Seems both the area as well as your own elemental alignment may have an effect to the shards and crystals you receive. I'm very interested in the matter. Can't wait to get home and try some stuff myself :)

Besides, the cities are so close together (1/2 an hour or 6 anima) that it's not exactly a huge issue to travel, farm for 2 hours, and come back with 2-300 shards and a dozen crystals. 3 hours spent for shards that should last you a few days at least, or more if you stay longer.
