I know it is only open beta but what are some of the worst names you have seen? I know I can only shake my head at the countless WoW names but Wutwut Inthebutt has been the worst name I have seen so far.
#2 Sep 08 2010 at 7:48 AM Rating: Excellent

Ron Paul
givs bjsrlygood (Miqo'te)

I've seen an absolutely disgusting amount of cat/neko/meow/nyan combinations for Miqo'te, which I don't find 'cute' or 'funny', just obnoxious. >: Lots of Sephiroth/Cloud/etc clones as well, including terrible misspellings - stuff like Sephirothx/Sephroth/Sepheroth which doesn't even make sense to me because with surnames there's no need to butcher given names. I saw a Harry Potter (and then saw a Tom Riddle about 2 minutes later, haha) as well, which honestly just made me laugh. I saw a 'Ineed Aname' too, and several variations of the same.

There's more, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

The reason they misspelled those names is because the correct spelling of the name is blocked by SE, I believe.

I tried putting "Caitsith" as my surname but it was blocked, so I went with Caitsithh instead. The only reason I went with Caitsithh is because I'm from Caitsith in XI, and just maybe an old friend from Caitsith might recognize me. But it's just a temporary name for Beta; my actual surname for retail will be different (I've already known from the start what I'll be using).

I've seen a few I was disappointed with, a few that made me chuckle, and a few that I really enjoyed/appriciated. Taking the prize so far was none other than Suzumiya Haruhi. I did a double take on that one.

Surprisingly, stupid names don't bother me in this game, because I can't see them. It's too much trouble to click on characters to see what their names are, so I am blissfully ignorant of all the failnames. Clutzy interface for the win, for once. :p

There aren't too many bad names.

I see a lot of NPC names from FFXI, but very few pop culture references.

One of those references is Roni Deutch the tax lady from TV, you may not have seen her. But that is what makes it hilarious.

I know it's lame but I've used the named Zeromus and Kainazzo in quite a few MMO's in the past and they work fine in this game, not blocked at all. Guess they're not popular enough or something.

Someone on Besaid has the name Valkurm Emporer...often followed by or around people threatening to "claim" him... I told some of 'em not to bother, the inevitable insect wing isn't worth it....also saw Cactrot Rapido
And one of my favorites, "Not Sure"...good on multiple levels, most importantly the great movie Idiocracy...

For bad names, I haven't seen a ton that stand out...I get really tired of the friggin' food names though

That was my thoughts on the matter especially since they were giving Xi players this option. Think about it, what if you're guaranteed your Xi name with server tagged on, and once you get to Xiv that name is already taken (I kno the odds, but still).

"Fistie Mcbutpuchie" was an all time favorite bad name from FXI, and sure enough they are out and about in XIV too.

I've seen a Lalafell named Draco Malfoy.. but I tend to see "otaku" and pop culture names on Mi'quito the most, go figure. =/

"Forgiven Espada" was a highlander though, standing around in his "300" style undies.

You'd probably hate my two chars names then, despite their deliciousness:

Choco Taco
Enchi Ladafell

Recently found out I was playing on the unofficial, RP server too. So far been getting a lot of compliments in whispers, to my surprise. Maybe it's because the first name kinda fits the naming conventions in the lore (nah, it's just cause those things are so addictive!)?

Been running across a lot of familiar/funny names though (also on Besaid). I wouldn't call them "worst," as I actually enjoy a lot of them. And after talking with some of them, they seem nice enough folk :P

I took a screenshot of Cactrot Rapido too, but all that came out on the pic was a dust trail T_T;

EDIT** Haw, landed gravity on her!

Though I did see two that I have respect for which were,

Lawson Maltz, either he actually knew about the Hollywood 10 or was just a big fan Studio 60.

Dude, Wutwut Inthebutt is pretty awesome. You even wrote a post about it! For better or worse.

On a side note, I saved that guy from certain doom yesterday. Puk Hatchilngs are dangerous at low level, they check green but attack quickly.

I'm just sad to see so many names that end with Beta. It's distracting and reminds me that my accomplishments are for naught. Ah well, I have made a great many mistakes that I'm not likely to repeat. Deciding which craft to focus on first at release is my next goal.

I was thinking of naming a characer Eddie Ott or Stew Pididiot. But since we'll only get one character unless we pay for more, I'm not going to waste stupid names on my main. I do enjoy seeing silly names though, they make me laugh.

One of my favorites from WoW was a nightelf mage named: Manwhorunswithstaff. (he was carrying a staff, of course)

That just made me laugh out loud when I saw it.

I haven't really paid attention to names in here so far though, because I like to keep the names turned off. I don't like all those words flying around on my screen - I just want to see all the cool surroundings and such.

Pesky guaranteed "<FFXI name> <server name>".... A friend from XI went with "Sith" as a surname, I assume for a similar reason (not sure if he tried for "Caitsith" and was rejected or what). I just went with a "real" name, figure there can't be more than two Trianes in relation to FFXI (me and the guy who wrote some sort of bot program >.<), so if anyone on Besaid recognizes me from Caitsith, it'd be the name and my having gone with the same model (though no ponytail anymore :\ ).

There's been a few "wtf?" sorts of names I've seen running around Besaid, can't remember any atm though. >.<

Other than the misspelled names you're all mentioning, I think they're pretty cool. If you have Lady Gaga for expample, you're the only one on that server now. Bob Barker? How can you go wrong with that? My name is original, but I think I'll change to something more pop culture myself in retail. Original names are just boring. I miss people calling me Lavigne in WoW. It was funny.

Multipass!

My favorite movie, I almost made her myself. I don't like the spelling Leeloo though, I always thought it was Lilu when I was a kid. After I saw the spelling, I couldn't do it.
