Everquest fan asks some questionsFollow

I am from Everquest, I never played FF11 but from the complaints I've been hearing from the NextGen MMO Community (wow players mainly) makes me have a lot of hope for this game.

I've played for a couple hours and really like a lot of aspects of the game, but I have some questions for people who have played longer than I. Especially if people played EQ they will know a little bit more where I am coming from.

1. Do we know if the servers are going to be separated by language/region?
I hear FF11 was not, and people used translation software which really sounds annoying to me.

2. Is there a good website that explains class mechanics? I don't understand how 1 character can level up all classes on that one character, wouldn't that make all hardcore players like max lvl everything and then basically have no class or character diversity? I just don't understand.

3. Are there dungeons for groups to post up to grind exp?
Everquest had a lot of dungeons for groups to grind in that had lots of spawns and groups would take different parts of the dungeon to pull to. I did a lot of exploring and only saw wide open spaces with roamers. All the videos I have seen the groups are roaming around pulling roamers.

4. Do people communicate?
I am a very social player. I love getting to know people but so far in this game no one talks. I will be standing in a group of like 10 people and say something like "hey guys" and no one says anything. It's really annoying and ive sent tells to some people asking them a specific question and they never respond. This could be a problem for me.

5. Rare spawns?
Camping and finding random rare spawns that dropped loot makes grinding so much fun.

6. How do people get gear?
I love that I havent been bombarded with gear dropping off every mob and given to me based on stupid quests like every other mmo. I like each piece of gear to feel like a accomplishment, how is this done in FF14. I know you can obviously get it from crafting but are there like rare drops or something?

7. Are all mobs animals?
I have only seen stuff like chickens and stuff in every video I found online and all the exploring I've done. I would love to find some sarnaks or gnoles =)

8. Is combat clunky for you guys?
I know a lot of it is lag, but for some reason my attacks feel very clunky and delayed and I have a really powerful pc. Anyone know if this is getting fixed.

9. Is there any kind of zone chats?
Might be cool if there isn't, if there isn't how do people sell and trade items?

10. Group/Raid size
What is the group size? I know its early but does anyone know what the end game content raid size is going to be?

I love what I have seen so far with FF14

I love that its hard! I have died like 10 times in my first few hours of playing
I love that it is group/role based
I love that everyone doesn't look like they are super uber when they are noobs still
I love the beautiful graphics and the little cut scenes they do, they focused on immersion.

So I am very excited about this game =) What do you guys think, I would love feedback from Everquest peoples.

Thanks FF14 community =)

This is everything I know. Someone may have a better answer out there.

1. Unknown, the game is still in beta.
2. It is a very social game and much more international, with a built in universal translator that allows you to speak in simple phrases and words to others that do not speak the same language.
3. Unknown
4. Rare drops, unknown
5. I've only seen monsters and such.
6. It lags for me sometimes.
7. No zone chat that I have seen. There are some speculation and facts about the trade system. Hiring retainer and a possible auction house. A lot of things just have not been implemented yet.
8. I tried the party building system and I think I could reach a max of 14 players or so.
9.

1. there was a lot of this in ffxi, we'll just have to see. i have a feeling a lot of the instance/dungeons weren't included in the beta.

2. social exclusion was something i thought was prevalent in ffxi. you had some town chatter but it was mostly limited to auction type deals, people asking for teleports, linkshell (re: guild) recruitment, and the occasional "so and so sucks" type deal. you almost felt isolated, relying solely on your LS for socialization (or going to the most popular community site and posting). i would really like to see some sort of global chat system implemented which would be available if people want to use it.

3. this was in ffxi, and i would imagine is going to be included in this game. again, this is something that appears to have been excluded from the OB.

4. what you see is what you'll be getting. mostly crafted gear, and the rare drops are the +1 and +2 stuff you're seeing that can be used to craft superior gear. when you get to the higher levels you'll likely have some sort of pattern/epic quests type stuff.

5. heh, i bet most people don't even know what those are. you'll see antlions, goobues, etc. later. there are humanoid type monsters if that's what you're wondering.

6. yes, and i hope so. combat in ffxi was very action oriented.

7. there is shout, which is actually limited in range (not zone wide). i'd just prefer a global chat system with channels relating to topics. re: auction, level chat, class chat, etc. /ooc spam is unnerving.

8. we'll have to see, i'm fairly certain OB is not testing group/raid dynamics, but is really ironing out the server/client issues.

3.
Did not see any rare spawns, did see chests which can be looted.

5.
No. I did see Wigths and assuming there will be a diversity in mobs. As in all MMORPG you start killing rabbits, FFXIV is not that different in that aspect.

6.
Sometimes. I think it has to do with the skill queue system.

7.
As far as I know, there is not and personally liking it a lot.

As an old EQ player as well and liking the crafting system in EQ, you will love the crafting in FFXIV. I am not sure if FFXIV is group based a lot though. At least I did not group till now, although I am more group oriented. Grouping feels a bit shallow at the moment but could be due to beta and everyone is trying out things for themselves.

Actually if you look on this website there are class forums. Check it out at the top^^ You have a rank level and a physical level. So there are layers...ogres have layers...hehe

I doubt that they would make regional servers, but who knows.

A big selling point for the FF MMOs is it's great diversity in the player base one every server. Most FFXI/XIV players seem to have come to appreciate it and enjoy the chance to talk to people around the world. Really it's not as bad as it sounds, the auto-translator is extremely easy to use, and actually makes typing in FFXI/XIV faster and easier. It is more of an auto-complete than an auto-translator. There are thousands of words and phrases programmed into the dictionary that, when used are substituted on the client side with the user's language. What this means is that you can start to type "Congratulations", get as far as "cong" then press TAB, it will complete the word and translate it into all languages.

This isn't even counting the fact that realistically, you don't need to interact with players from other regions. In FFXI there was more than a large enough English speaking player base to support plenty of socialization and networking.

The ZAM wiki has a decent explanation. But here is a brief rundown of your first question:

Each character has a limited number of Ability Points that they can spend on equipping abilities. That is to say, if you maxed out all of your jobs, you would still be limited to choosing your favorite 10-20 abilities (an estimate, I don't actually know what the numbers will be). Moreover, each Discipline has abilities that only it can equip. In addition, abilities of one Discipline are reduced in potency when equipped on another. This should provide more than enough incentive to diversify, as well as making it so that hardcore players with several capped jobs are not excessively more powerful than cacual players that are just getting their first job capped; it just gives hardcore players more options.

I'm sure in years to come people will become more demanding as to what your maxed discaplines are and what actions you have equiped for endgame parties, like the best tank is always gladiator with high end marauder actions; "Dont have level 50 MRD action? Sorry we'll find somone else"

Groups can have 15 players in them.

Quote:
By forming a party with others, players will be able to defeat monsters and complete guildleves of a difficulty unthinkable to the solo adventurer. A single party may contain up to 15 characters.
