You cannot perform that actionFollow

I am getting pretty tired of seeing this message during a fight. Sometimes my stamina bar is completely full, I'm sitting there getting beat on by some mob and every time I try to do my standard attack I get the message that I am unable to perform that action. I assume this is lag or some sort of poor performance, but it makes me think if the game is that unresponsive, what is the point? As I gain more and more abilities and start harder battles, what is the point of trying to have a good strategy if the game is unable to process my simple commands at times?

I'd say so far, about 70% of the time, I don't have this issue, but once it starts it does it fairly frequently and makes me feel very out of control of my character. Makes me wish the game just auto attacked like it did in FFXI.

Yeah, I just assume it is because of the UI lag... which I assume will be fixed by retail b/c if it is not, SE has a serious problem.

Just a tip though, so your chat log isn't spammed by "You can't perform that action" you can filter it out by turning off System Error Messages I believe. Well, at any rate, it is one of the last filters that says something like "System messages" or "System error messages". I don't remember which one it was exactly, but I am sure you can find it if you are interested.

Thanks for the tip, but I don't think I want to filter out the message. Sometimes I'll lag and attack without any animation, which is annoying, but with the message I at least know, my attack didn't actually go off so I can hit the button again and hope my character decides he is ready to attack now.

Yeah, sometimes I cast a spell and nothing happens, no error message or anything. Maybe I got interupted is my guess. Other times I get the message that I am not facing it, even though I have a really good angle on it -----<

ha, well I filtered it b/c my solution to the problem was to just spam my WS until it went off... which in turn spammed my chat log.

This is exactly why I do not plan on skilling a DoM job until they fix the lag. It is very frustrating to be a mage right now.

Yeah, that's my other problem. Some abilities require me to line up mobs or position myself just right, but the game is usually too unresponsive to know where I actually am in relation to the mobs I am fighting, making the whole process pointless and frustrating.

I'd only experienced that when my connection is red (the circle on the top right corner). When my connection was yellow or green, I never had any troubles with that. So I guess that may not be UI lag, it should be server lag instead.

It's not U/I lag. It's just lag in general, at least in my experience.

If I'm in an area with little to no people it's flawless combat. (not the u/i just combat)
If I'm near the cities or a camp it's can happen quite often and yes it's annoying. Right now I think they calculating the over all population load the server can handle at one time.

And from what I read I believe all the servers are in Japan. This is bad for a lot of people because it adds a lot of latency. Higher speeds will help but not much. If the latency is high it's going to respond slowly.

I don't know if square will or ever add regional servers. Issue is they need teams in each region to manage those. That costs money to cover the team and the overhead of the servers. If the games overall population is high enough that expense will be trivial.

We'll have to see though. It's SE and they don't always make the best decisions for their players.
