Anyone else having problems with the servers? Almost every time I'm fighting a mob my latency goes to **** and then comes back with said mob hitting me 3-4 times in a row as the server catches up. I doubt this is something that will just go away because "this is beta". They're running the same servers that are going to be active on retail. I just can't stand dieing to dodo's anymore because of lag.

"dodo hits you for 120"
"dodo hits you for 119"
"dodo hits you for 134"
"dodo hits you for 120"

...your ****** and there's nothing you can do but stand there and take it up the ****

Yep, this sure does happen. I don't think the lag will go away at release, but sometime in the following month or so after release I think it will be better. That's more realistic.

The current lag is forced on everyone to stress the servers ability to support many more people than are currently online.

Explain how SE can 'force' lag, and how this is conductive to anything

You can set a limit for what a server can possibly send and recieve, the game is more prone to crash if somone can't recieve packets quick enough to keep up, it's also significantly cheaper to run a server with minimal traffic, they are't really making any money off of this game yet.

The lag isn't forced.

It is right to say they're stress testing the servers hence the lag.
And by stress testing I mean amount of users on the server at one time. The influx of the population on each server has grown rapidly.

Retail will really tell how they plan to manage the population load on each server. Also there is latency due to distance from you and the servers which I believe are in Japan.

XI had the same display of latency, and mine was always significantly higher than the highest I have right now, which has never gone above 50 to my knoledge. so it's safe to assume it has absolutely nothing to do with how far away the servers are.

I don't want to argue about this. I have no basis on believing it's forced, just blind faith and reasoning. I also haven't seen anything to prove it isn't.

Wrong. Distance always comes into play when latency is concerned. Keep in mind this isn't XI the network stack they use is different I'm sure.

I'm just guessing based on my networking knowledge(it's what I do for a living really). there are other factors of course and it can be improved. The distance alone isn't the issue though it's also the amount of players on in the location of the game world you're in.

Right now thats a lot specially near camps and cities. All that network data has to go from you to the server to the other player and theirs back to you etc. Coupled with latency you'll see the symptoms we're seeing now.

Why would they develop a combat system where you need to constantly press attack over and over? Since we westerners have lag, we fall behind in combat, and get attacked more than we can attack the enemy. I'm not the only one who has been attacked 4 times simply because my queued attack wasnt being 'understood' or whatever by the server. I just sit there with a queued attack, waiting for it to go off as the enemy wails on me.

But hey, we're westerners. we dont deserve better

I don't think they can afford to have that attitude if they want to make money. I think the combat system is fine. Right now the issue is congestion from massive amounts of players being on at once and huddled on the same areas.

They're most likely optimizing the network code as we speak and will continue to do so. When the OB came out it was really really bad. Every update I've been getting better and better results. I still run into problems though but I do feel that with time it will get better.

One thing to keep in mind for some people. Be sure if you use utorrent to update the game(like I do as many others.) To fully close it out once done. I'm sure thats obvious for many of you. Just something to look out for.

I just had to call it quits tonight after being red 80% of the time and completely R0 almost half of that. The game never booted me out like XI does if it R0s, but it freezes the game for periods of time. This is more frustration than its worth at the moment.

I think this started two-three patches ago, before then I didn't have any problems. Now it's press 2, watch my guy stand there for a few seconds, hit 2 again, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2222222222, watch my guy make his hit. All this while the mob has a free pass to wail on me.

I'm not sure if I'm R0'ing because of all the people or what.

Yeah, it was really bad for me tonight too. It took me an hour to do one crafting leve, then on the way running back to turn it in, it crashed out on me. Haven't been back in since...

I've never hit red until tonight. Now it's red and R0 all the time which sucks because now I can't play at all.

Indeed, I haven't had much trouble with it before but tonight it's significantly worse...
