Patching outside of the downloader, what am I doing wrong?Follow

So I was having trouble with the downloader like many people, not even getting my download speed above 30Kb. Yes I do have the ports opened. So I decided to use a different torrent downloader and it jumped to about 250Kb. The problem is, now I've got the patch downloaded, in the folder d96347e6 > patch, but when I start up the downloader it doesn't recognize it, just starts downloading again. What am I doing wrong?

If you've downloaded the patch and the patcher doesn't recognize and install it, you've got the patch file in the wrong location.

And please, for the love of sanity, don't come back with, "No it's not, it's in the right folder."

It's not. It's in the wrong folder. Re-read the instructions you used to download the patch with uTorrent and try again.

Are you certain the patch that you downloaded was from the blue download window or the red download window?

Red window = the downloader update and goes into the b folder
blue window = game update and goes into the d folder that you mention in your post.

verify that you are putting the correct patch into the correct folder.

After your torrent finished the download, right click on the file name (in the torrent downloader) and click "open containing folder"..copy the patch file and paste it in the patch folder for the game (even if its there) and click "copy and replace" if prompted..now try running the game again.

Also make sure you opened the torrent corresponding to the current patch it was trying to download.

Especially if it's already there, since that's usually a sign it's in the right place. ^^

The status should be "Preparing to download" and the % on that status should match the % on the progress bar. After both hit 100% you'll get "Finishing download". If you're connecting to peers and getting a download rate on the bottom then it has to have been in the wrong place, or else the downloaded patch file wasn't correct (but usually just the wrong directory).

I don't know what else to try. I've tried moving the file I downloaded between all the different folders. I believe I had it in the right one to begin with, because every time I start the downloader, the same file makes a 2nd copy in that same folder. Not only that, but the 2nd file grows at a very fast rate to the same size as the other file(4,932,542KB). The problem is, it keeps downloading, at a slow rate too.

My signal strength is a little weak where my PC is at, which seems to have no effect on my torrent downloader because it's still reaching 250Kb/s, but now I can't even get the FFXIV downloader to get a connection. Sometimes it even times out on me.

Looking carefully now though, I see that I have a H2010.08.30.2000.patch as well as a H2010.08.30.2000 .patch. A very subtle space was added to either the copy the downloader created or the one the torrent made

There should be no spaces in the file names. The only delimiter used is the period/decimal.

This forum has the how-to and links to all files that you may need.

I suggest scrapping the files you have.
Make sure your updater is up-to-date (wow that sounds weird) and put the fresh patches you download from this site in place. Remember the updater patches go into the b folder and the game patches into the d folder.

Hope you can get it to work properly.

I had the exact same problem with the OP when I tried to download with uTorrent, but at the end I had solved the problem.

Oinari, you can give this a try and see if it'll solve your problem.

Here's how I download my patches:

1. Start the game and wait for the download screen to pop up, when it comes up (you'll see 0% progress bar), click cancel to close the downloader.

2. Go to Documents/My Games/Final Fantasy XIV Beta Version/downloads/<either the D or B folder, depends on the patch>/patch and make sure there's a .patch file there already. Then go to the metainfo folder, double click on the .torrent to start the download.

3. Once the download is completed (if you use uTorrent, you'll see a RED arrow appears next to the file and it'll say Seeding), EXIT uTorrent completely (don't just click on the X mark to close the program, go to File>Exit)

4. Open up the folder where the file is saved in.

5. *IMPORTANT* Copy and paste the new .patch file to the patch folder and replace the existing .patch file in that folder.

6. Run the game again and it should be fine.

Thank you for that link edge. Thank you dearly. I deleted my patches from the beta folders, then moved the right patches to the right places. It seems to be working now.
