~ City opening CS spoiler alert ~

So I just went around watching all the city's opening CS's to decide which will be my final choice (Gridania or gtfo). Anyway I was really surprised to notice a couple things in the Ul'Dah one.

That goobbue is being controlled by that magic 'collar' around it's neck, and the person controlling it seems to be that mage (holding a wand) looking guy that tries to reinforce it when it starts to flicker, but gets KO'd before he can 'use charm'. To me this suggest that the glowing collar might become the visible effect of a Beastmaster class' 'charm' effect. I could definitely see that collar appearing around the neck of any charmed monster. Maybe it would even flicker like that when charm is about to wear off, just like our buffs currently do.

And then there's little mister Ninja, who comes to the rescue with his throwing knives and his little black suit...

And then of course there's the guy with the gun in the benchmark CS, combined with the musketeer guild, you know that's coming sooner or later too.

Interesting... I don't think these are just random.

did you carry on after that cutscene in Uldah? sure it mentions that he was a Thurmaturge, can't remember of the top of my head but sure he was, might be a future ability for the class

I might be completely wrong about that though

What better disguise for a NIN, than a harmless BRD >.> <.<

And no I didn't continue past that CS and its resulting battle.

Hmm I wonder if mages will somehow become BSTs through setting certain gear/skills. This whole game is reminding me of Tactics Advanced more and more.

Who would have thought, in a high fantasy world -- magic collars, knife throwers (at a parade), and people who are labelled bards.

I think you guys are on to something.

There were lots of prostitutes in the alley in the beginning too, maybe we will get a Harlot class, I don't think this is a coincidence

Edit:

I needed some black text

The thaum was casting paralyze or sleep or whatever. That's what they're there to do. You've got no actual reason to think it's a bst. The Thaum was there to keep the gobbue under wraps, not to control it ala bst. ;\

Do think Uldah and grindania have the best opening Cutscenes, may have to think Grindania is the one that drew me in the most.

Did he have a sign saying "I'm a BLM" ? Did the log say he was casting sleep? Then I have plenty of reason to imagine it could be a BST. Unless some NPC specifically talks about him later, my guess is as valid as yours. Not to mention SE has stated pet jobs coming later, and that 'tamer' or w/e has been found in that big list of unimplemented classes.

I think that's enough reason to think it might be a BST in action.

later in the city questline it is specifically mentioned that he is a thm... and he is using a thm weapon... which in the game - makes him a thm

Well then I accept that. Helps to back up your claim with something like that than to just say "it's that" with no explaination. :P I still think that if they ever add charm however, it will put that collar on things.

did you see how that not-mithra jumped up on to the cart. i think if they ever add an acrobat skill to the pugilist class he will do THAT animation. i know it because everything has meaning.

just so i can use black text, this was in the ul'dah scene too!

also, what is your evidence for this magical collar to be in the future beastmaster-like class that is clearly going to be a THM subjob?

This isn't FFXI. There hasn't been a single FFXI job added to FFXIV out of the full range of jobs thus far. Why anyone would think they'd start borrowing jobs directly from XI later is beyond me. So no, it's not a BST. And no, it's not a NIN.

That being said, if I can be a BRD with Kunai - HOOYAH! I loved me some spoony BRD in FFXI.

some one is a mr grumpy today, lol he's just assuming bst and nin type, we all know they're not gonna be called a bst or a nin, but the job type itself its just a comparison

#1 BST was in Tactics also, before FFXI, for one.
#2 As i said earlier a BST-like job class is already in the game code, along with like 18 other classes that includes the ones we have now.

The point is that there will not be jobs cut and paste from XI into XIV. There has been no indication or confirmation that there will be pet jobs of any kind. The closest thing to it is the Shepard DoH, and we know approximately jack about that aside from it being a crafting class, not a combat class. You can't look at a cutscene and try to draw any inferences from it because if you did, it would also be indication that there will be moogles and horned kid summoners as playable races/classes and on and on and on. Not everything is a hint. Not everything is foreshadowing.

My guess is that you're seeing what you want to see. Are you wrong for doing so? No. Is that a BST and NIN in the opening CS? NO. Because BST and NIN are from other games, not XIV. Half the traditional FF archetypes are completely absent from XIV. It's a new game, new class concepts, new approach to character development. Is that a pet class of some sort in the CS? Quite possibly. Does that make it a BST? NO. Is that a nimble, stealthy fighting class in the CS? Quite possibly. Does that make it a NIN? NO.
