Game Controller vs Keyboard/Mouse?Follow

I saw someone talking about this earlier. I don't have the greatest video card and will be fixing that shortly. As such I am playing in windowed mode and I have been getting irritated playing with a mouse and keyboard, especially since the mouse cursor doesnt seem as responsive as it should be and I havent been able to find a way to turn up mouse sensitivity. I played FFXI on XBox so maybe I am just used to that but I have played other MMO's just fine using mouse and keyboard, but this game seems really unintuitive with controls. I was wondering if it is possible to go buy a wired XBox 360 controller to play this game? And if you can is it better?

Noobish question I know, but I would appreciate to hear some thoughts on this.

I play on a wired 360 controller. It's plug and play with Windows. It's very easy to use. I only use the keyboard for hitting 1-0 in combat and chatting.

Wait a few hours or a day, and go here.

Hardware mouse is waaay easier. Either way this game feels made for a controller. Found a random ps2 wannabe usb controller and it works perfect. Aslong as the controller has analog you should be golden.

I use a PS3 controller (which is a terrible thing). The keyboard isn't responsive enough for FFXIV for whatever reason. I like the idea of being able to use a controller to play the game but there isn't an excuse for the lack of response from keyboard inputs and slowness of the mouse cursor.

The only annoying thing about using a controller is that there isn't a radial quick slot bar, so you have to just push left and right to reach an ability then use it each time. It wasn't so bad at low levels with four or so often-used abilities but it does become quite annoying as you level up.

Like Oenos, I'm using a wired 360 controller. I love it so much more than the keyboard/mouse combo, but a lot of that is because using a mouse aggravates my carpal tunnel. :)

Yeah arrowing over to select the skills is a pain. It'd be worth trying one of those controller to key-input programs. You could map some of your extra keys to the 1-0 buttons that you use lots.

Yep, using Xpadder takes care of the arrow over problem.

I'm new to controllers. What does XPadder do?

I'm at work so I will try going to that site when I get home, seems most of the comments people are leaving are very positive.

I'll eventually go pick up a wired XBox controller, in the meantime I need to save up for a new graphics card. As long as there is a solution for that mouse I'll be ecstatic. It makes the game practically unplayble. It's like dragging a snail across the screen.

Xpadder allows you to map the controller to specific commands/macros that you would normally type on the keyboard. It allows you to use ALT commands, for example, which you would normally not be able to do with a controller. :)
