software that could help targetingFollow

#1 Sep 10 2010 at 1:48 PM Rating: Default
There are many programs out there that let you bind keyboard keys to your joystick, so when you press a button on your joystick, such as a shoulder button, you could make it send a keyboard signal, such as "M"

If someone could guide me to the direction of a program that lets you do the OPPOSITE of that, I'd be grateful. I'd like the left/right targeting features of the controller, but on the keyboard. (I'll likely bind numpad 4 and 5 to joystick left/right)

No further explanations are needed really. If you don't understand what I'm talking about then it's no big deal

There will likely be the standard Next Target - Previous Target buttons that can be mapped at release.

They didn't implement TAB/SHIFT+TAB in XIV? IIRC, that's what XI had, though SE seems to be learning from all the wrong "mistakes" lately Smiley: mad

You understand I can't trust this. It should be implemented from the game's inception, it's that basic.

So, can anyone help.

It's called Tab and Shift+Tab, unless I'm grossly misunderstanding what you're trying to accomplish.

Trying to de-retardify the controls. IF you guys think shift+tab is a good targetting system, and comfortable, then I've got nothing to say. I'm looking for a solution for those who wish to have a somewhat decent control scheme

Sorry, but that's been standard use for computers since Windows 3.1 because it works. It's not even a FFXIV issue, really.

I've been using tab and shift+tab for well over a decade and have been loving it.

I'm trying to find a way to remedy the targeting problems in the game. If you guys are denying a problem exists, then you aren't the help I'm looking for, nor the help the community needs

NumPad0 is another option (though I don't think shift+numpad0 works).

Here's the deal with targeting. The issue isn't that tab or numpad0 is used, the issue is the tab order and the fact that it always starts with yourself, neither of which can be fixed (without hacking the client) by remapping keys

I know everyone seem's to disagree with this guy,but i hafta agree with em.Using shift+tab is not a efficient way to target someone.I had all my party macro's mapped out on 11 so i could cure etc. anyone in party with just a macro i didnt hafta target anyone.I have grouped up several times and have been unable to come up with a macro that will do this in 14.

Also i have not found a efficient way to go back and forth from using aoe and single target.Anything i try i hafta physically use the mouse and click the green button on screen.Which im not even using the mouse to play i use a Xbox 360 controller. So yes SE does need to fix some targeting and macro function's.

I don't know why everyone finds this so hard; with a keyboard it is really easy now D:

Select your target, then select skill the usual way (ie. 3 for poison) then when the green button pops up just press "Enter"

Anything within range will also be affected by your aoe.

Set up the following Macro:

Name: AoE
Command: /aoe

I use the 360 controller as well so this command is just a trigger press (CNTL) away.

The controller key for selecting/deselecting AOE is "emotes/stack actions"
try pressing the emote key to toggle it with a keyboard

Using the controller targeting system, if you press left or right when a target is in range, is starts with THE TARGET, not yourself like it does with keyboard. That's why it's a better targeting system.

I agree, the targeting order needs to take enemies into priority. It isn't needed to take allies into priority because healing/cure/whatever moves are aoe or coned.

like i said, just press the controllers 'emote' key - this controls the aoe button. no need for a macro

It has been said before but the keyboard key is "z". For some reason it's not the same as controler which is the emote key aka "n" on the keyboard.

rufo said he set a macro up for it, but he uses a controller, so i told him to just use the controller's 'emote' button. how complicated is that to understand? i know the keyboard emote button doesnt work that way, but i never once mentioned it. -.- redundant conversation brought by lack of reading comprehension

He's talking about toggling that 'green button' from lit-up (aoe enabled) to not lit up (aoe disabled). There's actually not keyboard key that TOGGLES this button. I've just done testing. The only 'button' that does this is on the keyboard. else, you HAVE to use a controller, or waste a number 1 macro spot for such a basic button.

Any advice?
