I know the minimum says at least a Nvidia 9800 but . . .Follow

I have a friend who has an AMD Phenom Quad core with 4 gigs of ram, plenty of hard drive space, and and Nvidia 8500 GT video card. Is there any chance at all her computer can handle the game?

I know there's a benchmark program to try but I don't trust it. My Intel Core i7 (8 core) computer with 8 gigs of ram and an Nvidia 5770 (which I know isn't the best but isn't bad either) got a low benchmark score. The game looks pretty amazing for me and plays very well. I plan to get a better graphics card eventually, but for now this one is fine. In any event, I didn't think the benchmark was fair considering my decent specs.

So I was just wondering since her machine's other specs seem pretty decent, will an Nvidia 8500 work for this game?

Is anyone else out there playing with a less-than-recommended video card and if so, how well is your game play?

Thanks for your comments.

The 8500 might load the game, but probably wouldn't be playable. I'm using an 8800 and that's just barely playable with the settings turned all the way down.

it will run it on low but choppy. I would recommend spending the $90 like i am and get at least a 9800GT.
Been playing FFXIV Beta?
Think it's too complicated?
Things are not going your way?

You have WoW syndrome. That's all.

I'm also using an 8800GT. It was okay during closed beta on low settings, but now for the OB, it's a little choppy, particularly during cut scenes.

I've been playing the beta with an HD 4200 (yeah, that's an integrated chip...) on low @ 1280x720 half-buffer just fine with smooth FPS while I wait to buy a video card. I don't know anything about the 8500 but I imagine it's better than what I have.

Thanks for your input. I was hoping to talk her into trying the game out so I'd have a buddy in the game, but I don't think she'll be willing to put out the funds for a new card any time soon. Hers works fine for the games she currently plays.

Maybe later on down the line I can get her to update and try the game.

Oh well! =\

EDIT: Just saw your post after I finihsed mine, Dex. That brings a little hope. I'm going to try to talk her into signing up for the beta while its still out.

Just thought I'd weigh in here.

I'm playing on a BFG 8800 GTX OC (probably the best 8800 ever made) and it honestly runs the game fine on high, although this card is considerably better than a stock 8800 GTS. I thought for sure I'd have to upgrade when I ran the benchmark, but I thought I'd try playing on this card anyway and was pleasantly surprised.

I'll be upgrading anyway soon (I already saved the money, might as well), so I'll be selling this card soon (if anyone wants to buy it :P).
