Why FFXIV works for meFollow

After playing the open beta for a few days now, i can safely say that FFXIV works for me.

I used to be a hardcore FFXI player..easily hitting at least 40 hours a week. I belong to the first wave of players who started playing the game when it was first released. But I was younger then, single and without much of a care in the world.

Years later, I am now married with a beautiful baby girl. I have family to feed, housing mortgage to pay and car loan to service. Can I still play like I used to? Well, I think I am lucky if I can get to play 2 hours a day...that is uninterrupted.

Looking back at FFXI, it was good for me...I had already reached lvl 75 yrs ago and done enough endgame to retire. I was happy playing campaign and getting some kills but thats about it. The game had gone stale for awhile and the expansion pack started to beginning to look a lot more like last burst of revenue making for Square instead of effort to make FFXI more interesting. I gave up on FFXI when they raised the level cap...gave away my gils...thank you Square for telling me after years of playing that I am not good enough and i need to level up more.

FFXIV on the other hand, redeem Square for me. I seen lotsa of threads commenting how ffxiv is and is not. For me though, it simply is. I can see myself playing casually and yet still making progress in a satisfying way.

I am sure there are others like me...FFXIV basically fills in the gap that FFXI used to dominate.

I think I'm going to love this game when it comes out. I'm like you I can only play the game an hour or two a day if.

I could play FFXI for hours and hours when I was playing but like you I've gotten married, 3 boxers and a saltwater tank to keep me busy on top of working shift's.

I'm looking forward to playing a game where I can just run around and get a few things done with out having to seach for a group that may or may not stay togeather the few min I have to play.

So I have a lot of hope that this game will rock and will be running smooth after a few months of being out.

I'm glad someone else is seeing what might amount to a slower pace game in a positive light!

In many of the recent MMOs that I've played lately, you level so quickly that much of the content between start and endgame is skipped over. I think that XIV will have a pacing that means for players to experience that content.

Just over a week to go ^^.
