Pardon the noobness I'm about to layout here, but where can I find the Thaumaturge guild in Gridania? I can't seem to find it and I'm rank 4 at the moment missing some skills =/

The thaumaturge guild is in Ul'Dah.
Any skills you've acquired up to rank 4 can be found under 'skills and abilities' from the main menu.

Thank you, follow up noob question...how do I get to Ul'Dah from Gridania? I dislike only having the 3 skills I started with =/

You will only have those skills that you gain while leveling up until you get guild marks. Guild marks seem to start appearing once you can do level 20 guild leves, and currently each new ability costs 5000 marks.

You are level 4.. how many abilities do you expect to have?

I was checking out this list here...

According to that I should have Exaltation and Sacrifice, which I don't.

Follow the road straight south from Gridania to get to Thalanan (Ul'Dah zone).

You don't need to go to Ul'Dah to get the skills though. You automatically have access to them by levelling up.
You should have 'Blood Rite' and 'Sacrifice' and 'Exaltation' by level 4.

Go to main menu -> skills and abilities -> click on an open space -> tab over to where there's a drop down box -> click on Thaumaturgy -> click on skill you want to move to hotkey spot -> click main hand

Or something similar to that anyways =)

you do not buy skills like in XI or WoW. Not counting the marks that we don;t have access to yet.

It was the drop down menu that I was overlooking, thank you. One final noob question, what is the quick way to respond to the last tell your receive? Seems to be different than FFXI unless I'm doing something wrong.

Edit: Nvm, seems you have to open the chat before hitting Ctrl+R

Ya, either click the chat window with your mouse key, then click Ctrl-R... or press the space bar, that will activate the chat window as well, then hit Ctrl-R. =)

While I have you nice smart and helpful people here, is there a place where I can see what each stat does and what it affects? A friend and I were trying to test a couple things last night but I'm sure there have been more thorough tests done by more experienced players.

DEX seems to affect the THM TP weaponskill you get at level 10, I'll do some testing with low-Dex and high-Dex after release. I take everything with a grain of salt right now since everything can change in a week and a half. Even crafting recipes might change.

Each point of VIT gives you more HP.
Each point of MND gives you more MP.
Intelligence is magical strength.
Piety is magical accuracy.

Strength is physical strength
Dexterity is physical accuracy. I'm sure evasion is somehow lumped in with Dex.

STR= physical damage done
DEX= accuracy of physical attacks
VIT= physical damage taken an Increases HP
INT= magical damage done
MND= magical defense and Increases MP
PTY= magical accuracy

Also I seem to be missing Exhaltation still, which a post says the following...

Quote:
Exhaltation you don't need to self target while in battle) *** Get from Baderon in Limsa( or equivalant starter NPC)after you get Rank 2** - Exaltation now has 10 minute timer NOT 30 minute. (credited to Rubina)

I started in Gridania though, does anyone know which NPC I have to talk to to get this?

Edit: I found her, it was a female elf named Miounne in the adventurer tavern.

It SHOULD be in your dropdown box of options.

Oh cool, congrats, it's on a 10 minute timer. I like it a lot. I never run out of MP =)

So you're able to equip abilities and such from other classes while playing another? Is there a guide or FAQ that explains how that system works? Seems like a fun way to mix around classes.

PS: Is 'classes' even the right term, if not what is?

If you've played other classes other than THM, you can click on the drop down box for that class and move the skills into your hotbar on THM, assuming they meet the requirements.

Some skills are class-only abilities, some are cross-class. Each skill should have the description and requirements of use on it. =)

How often is movement and positioning important, even while playing solo? I've noticed I'm getting my Lalafell *** handed to me against Easy Prey Funguars, but then I started moving away when their belly fills up to avoid damage and they are actually easy now. How many other mobs require attention to the fight like this? It's a nice little detail they've added. Kind of reminds me of turning your back to certain mobs in FFXI, etc.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: each class gets two rank 1 abilities. However, you don't get access to the second one until you progress to a certain point in the initial quest. Usually this involves going to the first camp and attuning yourself to the aetheryte, then coming back and talking to the person you spoke to to get your initial guildleve & NPC linkpearl (Baderon, Miounne, etc.). It does not matter whether or not you do the guildleve.

I have another question pertaining to AoE spells. I was testing out how AoE works and accidentally aggroed 3 Easy Prey mobs. I was able to kill them but got like 18 XP for one of the kills, the 3rd I turned off AoE like half way through the fight and got about 300 XP which is about half of what I would normally get. So AoE is an XP killer or is there more to it?

It matters, Some attacks seem do more damage when hitting from the rear. positioning is especially important to Lancers that have Linear AOE attacks. Alot of monsters have cone shaped special attacks too so they can be avoideable if fighting smart.

Im quite sure that positioning will be VERY important in high lvl group fights.

That is one of those things that I can't figure out if it's a bug or working as intended or what. Makes no sense to me.

Similar to funguars, if moles burrow into the ground while fighting them, you can run far away enough to avoid the AoE breakout (or whatever it's called) attack they use to pop-out of the ground.
