If anyone could help, it would be appreciated.

I am running the FFXIV beta on my Dell inspiron 1720 with problems. Here are my specs:

Processor: core2 duo 2.4GHZ.
RAM: 4GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia 8600GTm 265MB

MY Graphics Card is overclocked to a Nvidia 8600GTS. I have on problems running WOW on its high graphics at a consistent 30 fps. When I load FFXIV, it runs clunky. I tried sitting all graphics on lowest setting, it still runs clunky. Now, it is the beta version I am trying to run, so there might be issues there. But, will my inspiron be able to run FFXIV's final release, or is it time to invest in a new laptop?

I'm surprised it even runs at all.

If its not running on low adequately then I think its time for an upgrade. I don't think anything will drastically change graphically once release hits.

I'm not a huge fan of laptops myself but I would say your CPU and GPU could use a bit of an update. The GPU you have, even being overclocked, is on the very low end for FFXIV and the CPU is also kind of on the low end. Probably don't want to hear it but you should really get a quad core for CPU. Don't NEED one by any means but it would help a lot. If you are going to get a graphics card and stick with nVidia the GTX460 and 465 (not sure if they have mobile versions) seem to have great performance for the money.

Someone with a bit more laptop experience should probably help though.

Thanks for the help.
The game is running fine. What i did was link my duo core processor into a single core and updated my video card's diver. The game probably doesn't look the best it could, but there is no need for me to upgrade anything quit yet.

No offense man, but my mothers PC can run WOW on max settings lol. She doesn't even know what a facebook is. My point is, if your computer can't run an 8yr old game (approx.)on high settings, then you should probably upgrade.

It's time to invest. I would go Desktop if you really want to game and really don't want to spend a ton of money tho. My computer is a budget gaming Rig I built in 08 it runs wow at capped 60 fps and 90+ without cap on. All that for less than a grand. The one I just built for the other half runs this game smoothly on higher graphics with a core I5 also the entire rig was again under a grand. Laptops you're looking at 2-4 times that amount plus the thing will burn the hairs off your legs. Hope things work out for you.

I recommend never buying from Dell and never listening to your mother about computers. The game is back to running clunky.
